Vice President Dick Cheney says he has no regrets about cursing Sen. Patrick "Leaky" Leahy.
"I felt better after I said it," Cheney told Fox News Channel today. "A lot of my colleagues felt what I said badly needed to be said."
The vice president sidestepped Neil Cavuto's questions about whether he had used the word all the media say he did (a word the FCC deems a naughty and costly expletive if uttered on radio or TV). Cheney said that was not the sort of language he usually used.
Cavuto asked Cheney if he had cursed at Leahy. "Probably," the veep replied.
'We Don't Play Games'
Meanwhile, the Washington Post today defended its decision to spell out the vulgar term rather than use such euphemisms as "the F word."
Executive Editor Leonard Downie stated, "When the vice president of the United States says it to a senator in the way in which he did on the Senate floor, readers need to judge for themselves what the word is because we don't play games at The Washington Post and use dashes."
But what about all those "expletive deleteds" in the Watergate stories?
And how come the Post didn't report Hillary Clinton's attack on former campaign aide Paul Fray, whom she called a "f--king Jew bastard"?

Why not? It's not like they aren't going to snipe at us anyway. The PC BS has to stop. THE LEFT WILL NEVER LIKE US! We've got to get over it and be as tough as we need to be.

I felt better after he did it too.
Exactly. The treatment of Kerry on this site overall has been one of mocking for his "hip" pose, not outraged condemnation for daring to say the word.
As to the Cheney/Leahey incident, I said yesterday that they don't come much more vile and nasty than Leahy. I say "Bravo! Mr. Vice President".
It's refreshing to see someone; at long last; dish the formality and the falsehoods; and finally call an assh*le an assh*le... I personally can't stand to watch many of the debates on CSPAN; especially those in the Senate; in which they spend 10 minutes or more kissing each others ass while everybody; and I MEAN EVERYBODY; knows they truly despise each other...
GREAT JOB DICK! You put that assh*le from Vermont exactly in his place...
did the bad republican call you a dirty name?
oh, puh-leeeeeeeeez dems, grow a pair.
Hate to admit that I've used that one...
I feel much better too Mr. Vice-President. He is a POS and deserves it. Thank you!
Put that one right in there with "Bless your little heart."
Disgust because it was obviously planned and he wanted it on the record, kirky.
It was more a point of mirth and mocking, and any disgust was over deliberately presenting himself on the record in an interview in that manner.
If you can't discern the difference you aren't very smart.
MEGA-DITTO, MR. VICE PRESIDENT!!!!
He has gone farther than that. He has basically accused him of being a criminal.
Two entirely different situations.
Cheney's remark was meant for one person's ears only.
Kerry, on the other hand, was making public statements, which were being broadcast to an audience.
Cheney:
"I said it and I felt better for it"
..... or something like that on Neil Cavuto today.
I have more respect for him than ever.
Big time.
"I said it and I felt better for it - and doggone it - people like me...."
For further suggestions to VP Cheney:)
And how do you assume he is tied to Hatch? They are both on the Legislative Committee, but that's about all, and they are normally opponents, especially with regard to the nominees for judgeships that Pres. Bush has nominated..
I really like Cheney a lot, I even worked for Brown & Root when he was Pres of Halliburton. But, I think it will be Bush/Rice in 08 and then Rice & Hillary battle it out 2012.
Thank you Vice President Cheney for saying what all of us Americans are feeling especially after the three ring circus Leahy pulled on those judicial nominees. It is about dang time that someone told Leahy what to do with himself. God knows we all thought it.
