Cincinnati Enquirer ^

The television show Cops stopped filming in Cincinnati today after council members objected to what the show might depict.

Cincinnati Police Chief Tom Streicher changed his mind Thursday about letting the Fox TV show crews continue to film, which they had started Tuesday.

I hope you haven't gotten anyone in trouble for transporting any guns across state borders, cause it's in no way a crime. You may violate local carrying laws varying by state, but there's no federal restrictions. If you have it in the trunk you're *fine*.

I'm still wiping my coffee up from my workstation. That Chris Rock video was hysterical! True, but funny!

As I was pointing out, the Patriot Act has made changes. things that were once true are not necessarily true now. In NC, for example, a person who carries their gun in the trunk is not going to be in trouble, but if it is anywhere in the passenger compartment you are going to have problems. Except in cases where a person is carrying a long arm in a long arm rack in the back window of their truck. Also, in NC we do have a CCW law. However, private citizens are NOT at any time allowed to carry guns into courts, jails, banks, on school property or in ANY business where there is a sign posted stating you are not allowed to have your concealed carry weapon. A very large number of businesses do have these signs posted clearly on the front door.

Albuquerque also is not letting COPS film any more episodes there. The Mayor says it's because it casts a negative light on the city. I say it because it shows that we have the world's ugliest hookers. (Not just my opinion, this same sentiment was echoed by a former city DA on a call in show.)

I know many things that were once allowed on planes as everyday household and personal hygiene items are now absolutely forbidden.

Not absolutely forbidden. Only forbidden as carry-on items. These items, including firearms if properly declared / handled, can be transported in checked baggage.

CAUTION: State firearms laws are subject to frequent change. The above summary is not to be considered as legal advice or a restatement of law. To determine the applicability of these laws to specific situations which you may encounter, you are strongly urged to consult a local attorney.

Keep this above caution in mind. Some of the things in this site may well have changed thanks to the patriot act. For example, many things that were once allowed on planes even in baggage stored in the cargo bay may have changed. Keep in mind terrorism has changed the way everyone views things like guns. Do not misunderstand, I am not saying it is right, I am just saying it is a matter of fact.

I am just waiting for the day when someone is charged with violating a federal law for having finger nail clippers. That is in our future.

Seems to me a LOT of people need to watch this handy instructional video from Chris Rock.

LOL!

I've seen that video before - it is incredibly funny.

I'm not going to bore everyone here by posting a copy of the Patriot Act, but ChevyZ28, you're wrong. The Patriot Act does not deal with the specifics of aviation security nor with the interstate transport of firearms.

Perhaps your department needs to offer more in-service training on the subject.

I'll be driving down. With miles of deserted beach, a wife, and 3 small children I don't want to be unprepared. I've never had a problem before in your beautiful state but there's always a first. Thanks again.

I suspect Chief Streicher will be leaving by the end of this year.

Alicia Reece is (as usual) the primary "suspect".

I moved from Cincy in 1999 to Georgetown Ohio. Haven't seen a news story since that has caused me to regret that decision.

I am ,quite honestly new. I have only been in service one year, out of training for roughly 6 months or less. Firearms law is a thing I have been dealing with lately because of some of our changing statutes, and county ordinances directly related to the transport and carrying of firearms. The days are coming when carrying long arms are going to be as restricted as hand guns are. They will soon have to have bolts pulled, locked in cases and such. All because of terrorism, and the growing number of home invasions and car jackings we have been having in the last 2 or 3 months.

I want to say as a side note, I am not one of those who are against gun ownership, or carrying of these guns, however ther laws that do restrict that right.

Here is a common law that follows what I am saying, I bet because this is common law all of your states have this also:

Going armed to the terror of the people:

This is a common law offense (272 N.C. 535; 32 N.C. App. 495)

Class 1 Misdemeanor

A person guilty of this offense
(1) Arms himself or herself with unusual and dangerous weapons
(2) for the purpose of terrifying others, AND
(3) goes about on public highways
(4) in a manner to cause terror to others

Generally speaking, this common law offense has been charged only rarely in North Carolina, so the extent of its application remains untested.

ELEMENT 1- any gun is an "unusual and dangerous weapon" for the purpose of this offense. (272 N.C. 535)

ELEMENT 2- When this charge is made, the criminal pleading must allege that the defendant's purpose is to terrorize
(32 N.C. App. 495)

ELEMENT 3- It appears this offense would not occur if the defendant remained on private premises.

ELEMENT 4- For this offense to be committed, it is not necessary that the defendant actually assualt anyone, and it may not be necessary that anyone actually be terrified as long as the defendant acts "in a manner as will naturally cause a terror to the people". (272 N.C. 535)

All of this information can be found on page 122 of
North Carolina Crimes: A guide book on the elements of Crime
Fifth Edition, 2001
Edited and Revised by Robert L. Farb
Institute of Government, The University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill

Remember this law, from what I have read, and as far as I can see, all a person has to do is call and say you have scared them by carrying your gun, you can be charged with this.
