So if I'm (say) on my way to Renfest, I can put the bullets in my purse, and the gun in the trunk, or the other way around if I'm carrying a larger purse, and it's copacetic?

No I don't believe so. Intent is the key. You take it to the range for practice and the smith for repair but the only reason you would take it to Renfest would be protection and for that you need a permit.

You will need to check with Texas law. Every State has its own laws in regards to transporting and carrying guns. In NC, where I live and work, the Law requires the gun to be in the trunk during transport. The gun can not be anyhwere in the passenger compartment, even in the glove compartment while locked.

"The way I see it, the poor guy is just doing his job, and it's my fault he even had to get out of the air-conditioned cruiser in a Houston summer in the first place. The least I can do is not give him lip."

I appreciate you and people like you who have this kind of attitude about Police. If we even make any kind of an attempt to do our jobs, we are villafied. I have been attacked right in this thread because I said yes I would enforce a law that IS on the books and therefore requires I enforce it. Police Officers can't win. If we do not enforce the laws as we are sworn to do, then we are a waste of taxpayer money. If we do enforce the law the way we are supposed to, then we are communists.

"Why is that? Needlepoint scissors, in terms of sharpness, are right up there with the short plastic scissors you use as a child. Brand-new, a pair of scissors from Michaels right out of the pack will almost not cut thread."

To answer this question in short, because any object can be made into a weapon. If we don't take these smaller scissors, then we will be accussed of singling out those who carry scissors that are dangerous. If one goes, they all go.
