Couric to Matthews: "It's a Question of Who is the Lesser of Two Evils" in Iraq (US or Al-Qaeda)
The Today Show

Posted on 05/14/2004 4:28:00 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

It has come to this. In discussing Iraq, the Abu Ghraib abuses and the beheading of Nick Berg, Katie Couric summarized the situation in this way:

"It seems like it's become of question of who is the lesser of two evils."

That's right. Katie Couric wondered aloud who might be more evil - Al Qaeda, which, in addition to beheading Nick Berg, murdered 3,000 innocent people on 9/11, or the United States of America.

And please don't imagine for a second that Matthews came to the defense of the US. When Katie asked Matthews for his reaction to the statement from Sen. Zell Miller to the effect that the Abu Ghraib prisoners had underwear put on their heads whereas Berg was left with no head, Matthews completely, yes completely, ignored Berg's beheading.

His answer was entirely devoted to condemning the US for actions that made us look like 'perverts.'

Can Today, Katie Couric and Chris Matthews sink any lower? I suppose anything is possible, but they are going to have to work hard at it after this morning's despicable performance.

Thanks for your briefing

It's a question of evil period. Al-Quadi is spokesperson, supporter, enabler and cheerleader for it. It's called The Democratic Crime Syndicate. See right through this perky cellophane propagandist. I suspect the deferential Chrissy Matthews asked for its testicles back from her lockbox, so he could go back to playing whiffleball.

Just laugh at the little highly paid Jester in the anchor seat. She's ridiculous and proves it on a daily basis.

Where's Fox News on this?

This would be a perfect item for the Grapevine section of Special Report. Couldn't you just imagine the expression on Brit Hume's face?

"I heard Michael Berg blame Bush for his son's death. He is disgraceful...no wonder his son left home a lot. May Nick's murderers be found and punished."

No only did he blame Bush for his son's death ... he said al Qaeda is probably as dangerous as Bush and Rumsfeld.

This is part of the leftist tournament of ridiculous statements that began about a year ago and continues with a frenzy. Each leftist tries to outdo all the others with the most outrageous statement of the day. Truth is a disqualifier.

To say that the "Newsmedia" and its so-called "journalists" are anti-American is not hyperbole. Many of these people consider themselves to be "internationalists" and agree with America's enemies that the United States is The Great Satan. Whether the reference is religious or secular in nature is of no importance.

Yes, but it is the failure of "conservatives" to stand up and be "not good guys" and call them on it loudly and persistently. People who have voices in our country have become primarily careerists--and that means that they accept the standing crazy mores that leftists can be loud and perisistent and rightists have to be polite. It's abusrd, but because they accept it due to their fear of being ostracized, we are left with the current situation.

It it's a question for you, Katie, you twit, then you've demonstrated your lack of intelligence. Oh, wait, your being the female bobbing head on network news already demonstrated that.

Maybe someone can answer a question for me ... Rush Limbaugh says suggests something along the lines of "these soldiers were just having a good time" (or at least he's interpreted as having said that) and within a couple of days Left-wing groups are running TV ads featuring the quote.

But where are the deep-pocketed Conservative groups when members of the self-proclaimed "mainstream" press make comments like Couric's that attempt to define our country and this Administration as the moral equivilant of al Qaeda?

There *should* be enough Conservative money floating around out there to do ad buys featuring Couric's "lesser of of two evils" comment laid over footage of the WTC burning and collapsing. Maybe running the ads in the local NBC slots in a few urban areas DURING "Today" station breaks would let the media know that people ARE paying attention to what they're trying to get away with saying.

"We don't look like the liberators to anybody in the world"..We don't have the stomach for interrogators or occupiers...Did she say which are we?..to the good guys or the bad guys question? Chis said we looked like perverts. That's all I got except the good news that Congress will now want to run the war..strings to funds.

"It seems like it's become of question of who is the lesser of two evils."

That was exactly my feeling before I got cable 1.5 years ago. Which was the lesser of two evils: Watching Katie on Today or watching Diane on GMA.

Katie hasn't been the same since she was sent home from Gulf War 1 because she broadcast the attack just before it started and got in hot water.

Gen. Schwartzkopf's book lays that out nicely.
