I honestly believe that unlike the newspapers during WWII, CBS would have "broke" the story of D-Day preparations and ensured that Hitler's Nazis, being forewarned, would have slaughtered even more of our troops.

But not directly. The equivalent of Sen. Clinton's staff would have leaked it to CBS, who would have tipped off a smaller rag such as the New Yorker(with a liberal base that would allow them to get away with it) to take the actual heat. The New Yorker would have had a breathtaking story about 'consideration' of an 'extremely risky' 'neo-con driven' military operations involving attacking a beach in an unnamed(to protect soldier lives) occupied country across the English Channel from Great Britain. A plan so risky that the New Yorker has a duty to bring it into public discussion, lest so many of our sons and daughters be killed by foolish bravado. CBS would then claim that they would have sat on the story(being such loyal patriots), but that now that it is out, they had to go ahead and publish pictures of the beach in question, so that the public could have all the facts.

I would like to disabuse the old media of their belief that they are the 4th branch of government.

Their single job/craft/professional calling/whatever is reporting the factual news, not spinning it and NOT making the news.

As I said in 2250, I'd love to know if it were illegal for CBS to distribute. They certainly ought to know that such pictures are illegal to distribute, but I'm not a lawyer.

There's some Aussie FReeper who is well versed in the GC and law, but I don't recall his name right now. He was active on the Situation Room threads, though.

I'm sure Hillary can help them out. She is so good at "women's issues" unless you are on "her husband's" rape list and her hit list.

Well, the pictures ended not being "suppressed".

You must be dancing a jig of glee.

The story was out there since January. There was zero suppression. And the request that the media delay publishing photos was declined.

I think you are right about the media and how they would act during WWII if it were to happen today

Can you imagine if this were WWII and Gen George Patton had to answer questions about MISTREATMENT of Nazis prisoners? He would laugh and think it were a joke of some sort.

What these dishonorable MP's did was BAD, but this commotion and uproar is absolutely NOT NECESSARY and is definitely UNDERMINING our war effort and if this continues, as I am sure it will with MORE photos and VIDEOS to come,.... NOTHING but a FURTHER demoralization of our TROOPS ON THE FRONT LINE WILL OCCUR and that can only go so far before FORCE READINESS is diminished by sagging MORALE.

The nation must realize this disgusting PUBLIC FLAGELLATION HAS TO STOP VERY VERY SOON!!!!

I am sorry for the fact that the United States current administration lacks the cajones to properly fight a war. In fact, I believe that this country has not displayed proper warfighting since the end of WWII.

We won that war by defeating our enenies totally. Their surrender was unconditional. We did this by not only defeating them militarily, we overwhelmed them to the point that they lost the will to fight and resist.

Since that time, we have fought war in politically correct terms and have yet to actually win a war. And before you go and start bringing up the first Gulf War. Let me say that if that war was a such a great victory, why are we fighting there again? The reason? We did not finish the damned job the first time. And we still haven't finished the job. Instead of going in and defeating the enemy we are trying to win hearts and minds. What a crock! I hate to think what would have happened if we tried to win the hearts and minds of the Germans and the Japanese.

Im WWII, we firebombed the Germans into submission and we dropped nuclear bombs on Japan not once but twice. But now, we are made squeamish by photographs of Iraqi prisoners. Sure, if we had killed these prisoners before the fact in a firefight, that would not have raised an eyebrow. But take compromising picture of them and you stir up the greatest controversy known to man!

What was done to these prisoners was unfortunate. But, it was not un-American or something to have to apologize for. America is not a utopia, we are not a perfect people. This type of activity happens within our own borders. Cheerleaders rubbing human feces onto other girls. High School football initiations gone over the edge. Cops accused of using a broomstick on a prisoner. Just like the rest of America, the military is not perfect. The same type of people that do these kinds of things in the civilian sector are also in the military. The point is that they are in the very lowest minority. The good thing about it being American is that in America, we do not hide these things in the shadows. We air our dirty laundry in front of the world and we clean up our own mess when it is over.

What we need to do now is STOP APOLOGIZING and get back to winning this war. We need to stop playing pattycake with the Iraqis and defeat them once and for all.

did the Pope resign when the American priests committed sexual abuse?

And he's just getting around to defrocking them now.

QUOTE (CobleskillJohn @ May 7 2004, 01:43 PM)
I predict he (Rumsfeld) will gone by this time next Friday. Probably after the weekend shows. I'll pick Tues. evening.

What makes you think that. If Republicans close ranks they will keep him.

They eat their own.

And Sen. Graham is that any different than what BILL CLINTON DID THAT YOU VOTED AGAINST IMPEACHING HIM OVER?!

Wasn't Lindsey Graham a house impeachment manager?

Patton was almost sent home for slapping a soldier suffering from "combat fatigue".

Just talked about murders in the House Hearing. Said that one has been judges "justifiable homicide", two have been labeled Homicides, 12 have been ruled "natural Causes" and 10 additional deaths are under investigation.
