Thousands Protest Gay Marriage in Seattle

SEATTLE — Thousands of people protested gay marriage at a rally Saturday at the city's baseball stadium, facing hundreds of chanting, shouting counter-protesters outside.

The "Mayday for Marriage (search)" worship service and rally drew between 20,000 and 25,000 people from conservative Christian churches supporting traditional marriage, officials said. The protesters arrived by busloads at Safeco Field (search).

Nice turn out for a sunny Seattle Saturday. Singing, speeches, etc. Disruptive protesters in the stadium(maybe 100) left after being pretty much ignored by thousands. Speaker Dr. Joe Fuiten warned Washington judges against legislating from the bench, and organizer (former Seattle Seahawk) Rev. Ken Hutchenson encouraged heterosexuals to come out of the closet.

I applaud the management of Safeco field for allowing the rally to be held at their stadium. I know Seattle is one of the wackiest of left-wing wacko cities on the left coast so here's a hip-hip-hooray for Safeco Field.

Interesting, because I was listening on the radio, and the one speaker who went off about the gay community trying to "stow away" and piggyback on the civil rights movement had me thinking, "What is the leftist media going to do with THIS guy? They can't call him a bigot or make him out to be a bad person."

I concluded that they would ignore him.

By the way, I've heard Hutch attacked by leftists on the air and he is so incredibly cool. He invites them to church, and they go nuts. LOL

So what if people protest? Seriously, it doesn't matter one bit, because the courts will rule same-sex marriage is a right, just like abortion, regardless of what the citizens want. Additionally, if even one state allows gay marriage, the Constitution will ultimately force all of the other states to recognize it, even if they don't license gay marriages within their own boundaries. No federal law can protect traditional marriage in this case, because it will be trumped by the Constitution. It gets worse! Once gay marriage is recognized, it will be impossible IMHO for any government agency, like an adoption agency, to discriminate against it in any way. What can we do? A Constitutional amendment is nothing to those who make a profession out of perverting the Constitution every day of the year! It's like writing gun control laws and expecting criminals to follow them. Our only hope is to elect those who share our views!

You are right when you say we need to elect those who support our views. However, it is the judges who are perverting the state and federal Constitutions and in most cases we don't have a vote on them. Sometimes, but not always.
You say "so what if people protest"? There is strenght in numbers and in unity. If people tried to win issues by themselves they will lose. A show of unity does persuade lawmakers and also gives a sense of not being alone to those gathered together.

The local TV news was ridiculous in covering this. They said there was about 2500-3000 protesters outside and about three times that many on the other side of the issue inside Safeco stadium. This is simply a lie. The police said there were about 1500 outside protesting and the reports are 20,000-25,000 inside. I grew up with "new math" but even that poor background can determine that 1500 x 3 is not equal to 20,000-25,000. Furthermore, they only interviewed protesters and the "balanced" portion was to show an exchange between pro and con "debating" outside. They did ZERO to address the topic...but after all, this is Washington and they've already said they would honor any same sex marriages from elsewhere (our laws are too specific to allow the abuse Oregon is getting away with).

The police put the protester numbers at 1500, but who would expect ABC to be accurate anyway? They probably got their numbers from the protesters themselves.

Good point. I concur! If by protesting we can inspire more people to vote conservative at the ballot box, protest! As for appointing judges, you are right again. We don't normally have any direct control there, but we do elect the people who appoint and impeach judges. Now let's get them to act!
