Agreed 110%. If Bill Bidwell won't find a decent bone in his reptilian body for once and name the Cardinals' new stadium after him, then ASU bloody well better.

I've been feeling like somebody kicked me in the gut since I heard the news. I never saw the guy play, never knew a thing about him until he enlisted (I'm a Redskins fan, since when did we ever take the Cards seriously), but this has really affected me. I'm simultaneously proud of him, sad that he's gone, and annoyed that he was the only professional athlete that gave up his pampered lifestyle to defend his country.

Ranger Tillman, go with God. And say hi to Ted Williams for us, OK?

Is your monitor screen blurry, too?

That's for later. I've gotta get these e-mails out first...

Then, I'll think about how much I owe Pat Tillman, and all those like him. I imagine that will be enough to interfere with the monitor.

I ask God to give comfort and solace to the Tillman family.
I saw earlier in the thread that someone had written " we need to earn his sacrifice", and I can't think of anything nearly as profound as that to say. As a matter of fact with their permission I would like to use that as my new tagline. It is something we need to shout from the roof tops.
Today is my 40th birthday. From this b-day forward I will take time to pray, and thank God for people like Pat Tillman, who sacrificed all for my freedom. May he walk beside Jesus, the one who sacrificed all for all of us.

It has to be Afghanistan...I don't think the Rangers are in Iraq......

You are probably right as the news reports all to seem to be in agreement, but...

On one deployment from Savannah the First Ranger battalion left one platoon behind. They were under orders to spend their entire days in the malls, restaurants and other highly visible public places. No one even knew the battalion was deployed because the public visibility of the Rangers remained the same.

Ain't no tellin' where those boys are!

I agree with you. I see it as the same reason many serve their churches or charities. There are very visible examples like a Mother Theresa who have no desire but to serve and then there are others who may do it at first to meet friends.
I don't care the reason people join, but others bring it up often when they bemoan a poor person dying who just wanted a college education and it is fitting in light of that constant criticism to point out that this man served because he wanted to and that there are many soldiers like him and those that become like him after being in the service. We have family in the military and, like many others, they joined for oppurtunity. I would be just as disheartened should they come back in a flag draped casket, but just as appreciative.
Tillman gets a special glance I guess because of his notereity and because of the fact that he is a very visual reminder of the kind of selflessness in this country that is represented in all of our military personel.

Prayers to his family.

But I have to say he died with his hands on the enemy's throat.

Glorious !!!

So never sell the name. Make it just Pat Tillman Field. Period.

TomasUSMC, that's a great idea. An equally good idea is to join such efforts already in progress. KFI here in Los Angeles is raising funds to help the families of service memebers. I am presently chasing down contact information for KFI's program and will post it here on FR when I get it.

Trusting Bill Bidwill to do that is like trusting Ted Kennedy with your bottle of Scotch.

" We need to earn his sacrifice."

May I use this as a tagline? That is one of the most profound things I have ever read. As I write this it brings a lump to my throat a second time.
Thank you.

Perhaps this explains it better KC--it is less that he stands out as a soldier, but perhaps because he stands out and shines among many of us here at home, particularly his fellow peers in sports. That was a mistake on my part how I clarified it earlier. I guess I have trouble when any soldier dies finding the right words. Many times I don't even post to these threads and just say a silent prayer because of it.
Take care...

Aw man...Deep sadness on this one..........

That man was one of the only high profile true grit Americans out there in a Sharpie ball signing, Hidden cell phone in the endzone, tell it to my agent kind of world here in America.

No football for me this year. There are bigger things......

I new a man who left a high dollar programming job to be a Marine, he said...

"I want to be a Marine and serve my country before I get too old..."

With Americans who volunteer to serve like that I think there is still hope for the country.

God bless every one of them.

I was just thinking the same thing.

Would The Pat Tillman Story be the first ever sports/war movie? I'm racking my brain to try and think of others.

Lets Start A Tillman Fund here at Freerepublic.com.

Barry Young on KFYI today said we should start a campaign to make all service men & women exempt from taxation. I though that was a great idea. My heart hurts today & my prayers are for the Tillman family.
