I think George Soros got to Clarke and paid him off handsomely. That's what he should be asked.

An honest look would be examining the Church Commisssion, the hostages in Iran, a tepid response to Lebanon and airline hijackings and bobings, 8 years of a Clinton administration that allowed jihadism to flourish and a Congress that stood by and let it all happen for 25 years.

Don't forget Somaloia. We can draw a straight line from our "withdrawal" with our tils between our legs and 9/11.

If this commission doesn't come out with that as it's first bullet point (pun intended) then we will know for sure that it is the sham it no doubt is.

I sent this to both. Yes, I know, it is a bit elementary and definitely rough, but that is how I feel.

9-11 Commission,

As an American I am very embarrassed that the rest of the world, let alone the American people, are watching this mockery of an investigation.

It is painfully apparent that you don't give a DAMN about those 3,000 murdered Americans from 9-11. You do not give a DAMN about the families they left behind. Those people are not the main concern of the committee members. It is also painfully apparent that the safety of the American population is not the main concern of committee members.

It is apparent that the main concern of the committee members is to play politics and try to lay blame any way possible on the other party.

In other words, you do not give a DAMN about the truth, you don't give a DAMN about protecting Americans, you only care about blaming the other party and getting a political advantage.

You disgust me and you are breeding more and more contempt out here in the real America. You beltway cowards on the commission, yes I said cowards. Even those of you who served are now acting like cowards by your actions. You cowards are putting MY LIFE, my families life, American lives in danger for your petty, immature, egotistical grab for political power. I spit in your faces!

There is a HUGE anger in America building against both parties and the reason is both parties are power hungry and worried only about keeping their cushy jobs at our expense. No longer do we have leaders that actually try to get to the truth, to do what is right. No, what we have now is this mockery. There is not one real man amongst you. None of you are doing what is right and you know it! You are doing what is most beneficial to your party first, to yourself second. The safety of the American people does not even register. We just get lip service because you think we are all idiots out here.

Maybe we are. We expect you to act like responsible adults and what we get is a pitiful, childish show trial.

When the next terrorist attack comes and a few thousand more die, those deaths will be on ALL OF YOUR HEADS!! And we will not forget that you had the chance and once again blew it for something as childish as political gain.

I hope history treats you as you should be, cowards and traitors to our country!!

Darn. When I clicked on this thread, I was hoping to see a hundred plus posts. This should be in Breaking News in my opinion. The 9/11 Commission Farce deserves to be Freeped loudly and long.

I've done my part and contacted them. And my Dad would be proud. He's always said when you're in a fight for your life civility goes out the window. We need to let these hateful, lying, traitorous (I could go on!) partisan hacks know exactly that we are onto them and the truth will not die!

I'm glad the WH is responding to these attacks. The liberal media's biased reporting is another matter however. I just can't fathom why these mindless fools prefer socialism to our sovereign republic. Or Islam to God's gift of free will for that matter. Useful idiots, the bunch, and the sheeple that believe their twisting of the truth.

I used the email addressed posted in today's big live thread to write the commission...today was really outrageous, including the members of the committee not doing anything to stop the partisan clapping. Those "family members" were turning the hearing into the sequel to the Wellstone Funeral Circus.

Been there .. done that!

Complained about Senator Kerry's disparaging remarks about Fox News - which was a false accusation.

Complained about the cheering section. Stated audience should be seen and not heard.

Complained about all the "whine" regarding Dr. Rice. Since she's already given 4 hours of testimony - what was the problem??

And the final comment was about Sen. Kerrey offering Clarke a job and making the comment about believing Clarke was an okay guy. I was really mad about that one.

I don't expect a reply!!

It just still smells like jealousy. Remember how the dems howled because Clinton didn't get to have a 9/11 on his watch. We know Clinton had many events on his watch, and chose to meet with Monica instead. It was his choice.

Like Rush was explaining today - first they said Bush was "a cowboy", he was "reckless", and he "rushed to war" .. now they're trying to say the opposite - that Bush didn't do anything. They simply can't have it both ways. They can try - but it just won't work.

However, I've read quite a few reports about how Clarke gave one type of information to several government committees, and then another type of infomation was written in his book. Both Saxby Chambis and Christopher Shays have made that statement on the record.

I believe Clarke is discredited to the point that it won't take much more information to totally destroy the lying information in his book. That's what happened to O'Neill. The media went nuts and then after a couple of weeks, O'Neill was totally discredited and the story was over.

I believe it will happen the same way this time. Hillary's plans to smear Bush will never work out - never!! She's fighting against God .. and HE ALWAYS WINS!!

I just sent an email.

It would sure be helpful if POLITICS were left out of these hearings. For what it's worth, here something people should remember.

Our Presidents and thier staffs, including GW Bush, Clinton, Bush Sr, Reagan, or any other is not to blame for what happened. A handful of terrorists, backed by a well financed terrorist organization are to blame. The terrorists did not attack Democrats or Republicans. They attacked us, all of US!

The only issue this commission should try to answer is what could we have done differently that may have stopped these attacks. There were some things we could have done differently, but with what security measures we had in place at the time, so too could the hijackers have modified their plans. Even if bin Laden had been removed, we were still exposed for such an attack on some other occasion. In short, we were not prepared!

I know this personally as I left Massachusetts the evening of 9-10, and arrived home in California just hours ahead of the first hijackings. Though security had been heightened considerably, and visibly that evening, security had no idea what to look for.

I understand people want to fix blame on someone and hit them hard. Unfortunately, the terrorists cheated us of that opportunity. We need to turn our anger into a resolve to stop all such acts in the future.

This is all to be expected. Remember "Memogate II"? (Memogate I was the blocking of judicial nominees to effect the outcome of an Affirmative Action decision in Michigan).

A helpful reminder. Be sure to remind the lying liars in the press:

SENATE ETHICS COMM- FREEREPUBLIC NET: "PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE MEMO BEHIND THE CURTAIN"

On November 5, 2003, Americans were given an unprecedented look inside the Democrats' war, when Fox News published an astoundingly revealing memorandum from within the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, describing how Democrats on the Committee intend to use their positions, influence, and access to information - not to help win the war on terror, or to protect American citizens - but to undermine the Bush Administration. The memo describes their agreement to launch an "independent investigation" as a means to that end, timed to coincide with the 2004 presidential campaign.

The intelligence memo can be read here: Text and Analysis of Memo Prepared by Democrats on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence

Pulling the Trigger

We have carefully reviewed our options under the rules and believe we have identified the best approach. Our plan is as follows:

Pull the majority along as far as we can on issues that may lead to major new disclosures regarding improper or questionable conduct by administration officials. We are having some success in that regard. For example, in addition to the president's State of the Union speech, the chairman has agreed to look at the activities of the Office of the Secretary of Defense as well as Secretary Bolton's office at the State department. The fact that the chairman supports our investigations into these offices and co-signs our requests for information is helpful and potentially crucial. We don't know what we will find but our prospects for getting the access we seek is far greater when we have the backing of the majority. (Note: we can verbally mention some of the intriguing leads we are pursuing.)

(rebuttal) The substance of the Committee's work is classified until released, so any such "verbal mention" is strictly forbidden. Here the Democrats are conspiring to drop hints about the classified information they hope to obtain during their investigation. In addition to violating the rules, this would put members of the Republican majority at an unfair disadvantage, since they cannot refute characterizations of the "intriguing leads" without revealing classified information themselves.

2) Assiduously prepare Democratic "additional views" to attach to any interim or final reports the committee may release. Committee rules provide this opportunity and we intend to take full advantage of it. In that regard, we have already compiled all the public statements on Iraq made by senior administration officials. We will identify the most exaggerated claims and contrast them with the intelligence estimates that have since been declassified. Our additional views will also, among other things, castigate the majority for seeking to limit the scope of the inquiry. The Democrats will then be in a strong position to reopen the question of establishing an independent commission (i.e. the Corzine amendment).

(rebuttal) The fact that the Democrats on the Intelligence Committee have already collected "all the public statements on Iraq by senior administration officials" clearly identifies their goal - to discredit those statements. Will this help improve our intelligence procedures? Of course not. But then, they don't seem to care much about that.

3) Prepare to launch an independent investigation when it becomes clear we have exhausted the opportunity to usefully collaborate with the majority. We can pull the trigger on an independent investigation at any time-- but we can only do so once. The best time to do so will probably be next year either:

A) After we have already released our additional views on an interim report -- thereby providing as many as three opportunities to make our case to the public: 1) additional views on the interim report; 2) announcement of our independent investigation; and 3) additional views on the final investigation; or

B) Once we identify solid leads the majority does not want to pursue. We could attract more coverage and have greater credibility in that context than one in which we simply launch an independent investigation based on principled but vague notions regarding the "use" of intelligence.

(rebuttal) In this passage, we see the Democrats planning an "independent investigation" as the key component of their war on the Administration. The timing and tactics are intended to maximize the impact of their propaganda effort during the 2004 election campaign.

In the meantime, even without a specifically authorized independent investigation, we continue to act independently when we encounter foot-dragging on the part of the majority. For example, the FBI Niger investigation was done solely at the request of the vice chairman; we have independently submitted written questions to DoD; and we are preparing further independent requests for information.

(rebuttal) One might think that members of the Senate Intelligence Committee request information from the Department of Defense so they can do their jobs. Obviously that's not the case here.

Summary

Intelligence issues are clearly secondary to the public's concern regarding the insurgency in Iraq. Yet, we have an important role to play in the revealing the misleading -- if not flagrantly dishonest methods and motives -- of the senior administration officials who made the case for a unilateral, preemptive war. The approach outline above seems to offer the best prospect for exposing the administration's dubious motives and methods.

(rebuttal) In other words, subverting the Intelligence Committee is just one component of a larger political plan by the Democratic leadership; a plan in which the "public's concern" about Iraq is considered the most promising line of attack. The refusal of the Democrats on the Committee to disavow this scheme speaks for itself. They see just one enemy. It isn't Al Qaeda.

(rebuttal continued) When the people responsible for our national security abuse their power, it puts us all in danger -- our troops in the field, our intelligence community, and the rest of us at home. We deserve better than this. The Senators and staffers who are part of this conspiracy should be identified and expelled from the United States Senate.

If Democrats appeared to care about the security of their country, rather than cheap and desperate grabs at power, history would recored Bush as a uniter extraordinaire.

But it takes two.

Maybe we can all mail them paperback copies of "Darkness at Noon" by Arthur Koestler.

Actually, though, maybe we should send a copy to the President, since Koestler's stirring tale of the accused in a Soviet show trial focuses on how the hero finds his own strength despite being subjected to ludicrous attacks and brutal, sham interrogations.

Dear Sirs,

The conduct of the Commission hearings have become so disgraceful that I cannot bear to watch the coverage anymore. The last straw was allowing people in the chamber to applaud, for crying out loud.

I beg you to remember that we are at war and your partisan conduct gives great comfort to terrorists. Most likely, they perceive your recent conduct an attempt to bring down the President and it strengthens their belief in a weak America.

It is certainly the way I and many Americans perceive the tone the Commission has donned, only we are angered and dismayed by it and will unfortunately now view any of your "findings" with extreme skepticism.

Most Sincerely,
