FREE REPUBLIC NETWORK LAUNCHES WEB SITE ON "WINTER SOLDIER INVESTIGATION" AND KERRY SLANDER OF U.S. TROOPS IN VIETNAM
(Washington, DC) The Free Republic Network today announced the unveiling of www.WinterSoldier.com, a new web site to provide news, analysis and research material regarding the false claim by John Kerry and others during the Vietnam era that atrocities were routinely committed by America's military.
In 1971 former Navy Lt. John Kerry testified before the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations about American "war crimes" in Southeast Asia, which he described as "not isolated incidents but crimes committed on a day-to-day basis with the full awareness of officers at all levels of command". Free Republic Network Director Scott Swett released the following statement:
"John Kerry played a key role in the leftist disinformation campaign that undermined support for the war by slandering a generation of American soldiers as mass murderers of civilians. Kerry testified before the Senate that the United States committed war crimes in Vietnam as a matter of military policy, citing claims of atrocities made at the discredited 'Winter Soldier Investigation' -- an event primarily funded by Jane Fonda."
"The truth is that atrocities were the exception in Vietnam, not the rule."
"Since Senator Kerry has made the strength of his military record a key issue in his pursuit of the Presidency, it is important for voters to have access to a more complete picture of his actions than is available from the Kerry campaign or the media. WinterSoldier.com will document and analyze the activities in which Kerry and others participated during the Vietnam era."
The site features a section on Kerry's hard-to-find 1971 book "The New Soldier" and covers the activities of the group Vietnam Veterans Against the War and its sponsors. New information will be added as it becomes available. Readers are invited to provide feedback, submit editorial pieces, and provide relevant material. The site will go live on Monday, February 23, 2004.
The Free Republic Network www.FreeRepublic.net is a 501(c)(4) public service corporation whose mission is to organize, train and support conservative activists nationwide. It provides information and organizational services to more than 50 regional and issue-based chapters around the country, and serves as the activism arm of the Free Republic Forum www.FreeRepublic.com.

You've made a good point about "her heinous".
While I want John Kerry exposed for the traitor that he is, it could open the door for a last minute Clinton entrance. Edwards? He's a trial lawyer. Egads, what is he going to do for us? Sue France?
I think that your scenario is right on target, and God help us. We have to be ready!

My opinion of George W Bush, is that he is a good poker player. I think he is ready for anything. I sure as hell he's ready for that.

OK,here are my observations.I never was in Vietnam but I know MANY Vietnam vets who DO tell of commiting acts that many of us who stayed stateside might consider rather ugly and cruel.Their justification was that after you see your buddies killed and wounded you are defintely not likely to see the Vietnamese as a people worthy of giving a lot of slack to if there is any question of them being the enemy.
I think there probably WERE some atrocities commited against civilians just as there have been in all wars. That is not to say that the whole Winter Soldier movement didn't have a bigger,New Left agenda to promote but to deny that it happened at all is pretty naive and myopic.

How about getting your friends to come in to FreeRepublic and telling their story? Gossip from you makes you sound like John Fing Kerry.
To: diotima
I'll be honest, I think the site design is bad.
The front page should get across easily digested information because most people won't have the patience to read 8548754 pages. Still make sure to provide the depth for those that want it.

"The truth is that atrocities were the exception in Vietnam, not the rule." Yep. When Hollywood came out with Casualties of War (Michael J. Fox as innocent homegrown boy, Sean Penn as psychotic squad leader), they had no problem touting that the movie was "a true story" (not merely based on a true story).
When the truth came out, they indignantly admitted that some things were made up and conceded that it should have been stated as based on a true story (which means that about 10% is true with 90% pulled out of the air or somewhere else).
Many people had no problem believing that Vietnam soldiers were raping little girls and smashing their parents' heads in. This movie came out at the same time that Dan Rather was doing expose shows fictional accounts of Vietnam vets who were crazy with grief and guilt because they were killing kids, beating grandmothers, shooting heroin, and brutalizing everybody and everything. These lies were exposed even though the truth got very little play. Dan Rather's interviewed SEAL members who were awarded silver and bronze stars turned out to be malcontents who worked supply warehouses in Okinawa before being kicked out of the military for alcoholism or behavior problems. CBS and the rest of the liberal media didn't care. They continue to portray Vietnam vets as crazy victims of an unjust war who can't function in society even though personal problems and criminal behavior on their part is less than the national average across the board.

If you're concerned about the Vietnam Veteran and how he was portrayed after the war this site is vital to a more complete view than the one given out by the media - during the 1960-70's. ...and '80s. Casualties of War starring Michael J. Fox still says it's a true story in the opening credits. It was proven not to be true.

Who said there were zero atrocities?
At issue is whether they were routine or rare, and whether they were in violation of orders or the result of American military policy.
To: The Mayor
Thanks for the ping. That website has a wealth of information for those interested enough in making sure Kerry never becomes President of our great land. I think that includes all of us.
Thanks again.
