The Media, and The Election
self | 2-8-2004 | International American

If this mornings interview between Tim Russert and our President is indicative of what we can expect for media coverage, we are in for a bloody fight similar to Peleliu in WW2! Russert was on the attack for the full hour, reiterating statements that have long since been rendered spurious, and showed little or no respect for the fact that he was interviewing the leader of the free world! Now, we all know Russert is a biased shameless liberal, but he didn't even attempt to be balanced, or objective. Why Presisent Bush agreed to this interview in the first place is lost on me. He, or his advisors should have done this with Brit Hume, or someone of his political proclivities.

Let's face it folks, The dominant media elite is still fuming over the Florida debacle. If I were an advisor to Dubya, I would make provisions for massive voter fraud in the coming election, and make provisions for the upcoming bloody attack by the leftist media. Lying is like mother's milk for the left, and is endemic to their beliefs and culture. President Bush should be cognisant of the fact that the left will do anything to assure his demise

Is it just me or did Russert look unusually bad this morning? Puffy face, cheap looking suit, half shaved chin, hair all over the place and occasional wild eyed glances.

He looked like a hard night's day! Like George S at the deposition a few years ago!

He had probably spent the previous evening with the network people, being "briefed" on how he should handle the interview. Something similar to Tony Soprano's "meeting" with Matthew Bevalaqua just before he whacked him.

Russert looked like yesterday's bad news. What a slouch.

The interview was reminiscent of the Diane Sorry-I-Saw-Her interview. They ask the same question 4 or 5 times in a row, sometimes not even bothering to rearrange the words.

When I saw Diane in the Whitehouse talking to the President like he was being interrogated for indecent public exposure, I wanted to pull her tongue out with pliers. I felt the same way when watching Russert.

Russert is a creep.

Asking Pres. Bush to respond to a bashing political comment by Kerry (Yale) was despicable.

What worries me, is that the dominant media culture has such a profound hatred for Bush, that Russert might indeed pale by comparison in the near future!

Worse, was showing the Time magazine cover. Russert knows full well that the Time Corp hates conservatives. Slease on parade!

Let's face it folks, The dominant media elite is still fuming over the Florida debacle.

The dominant media elite is still fuming over the war on Iraq, Bush's neglect of the UN, the war against the Taliban, the tax cuts, the impeachment, the 94 Republican victory, Clarence Thomas, the Gulf War, Panama, the Bush Sr. landslide, Iran-Contra and Ollie North, Reagan's Central America policy, Reagan's landslides, Reagan's tax cuts, Ford, Nixon.... get used to it. We know for a fact that the media is made up mostly of lefties who care more for the cause then for the truth. That's life. As for Dubya, he took his case directly to the voters, and that's about as good as he can do. I doubt he's going to win if he thinks he can make the press see his side of the story. They're not interested in seeing his side of the story, they want to get Kerry elected. What Bush needs to do is give voters a good reason to reelect him, and that requires convincing people that the benefits of our activities in Iraq will begin to outweigh the obvious costs. He's in for a shock if he thinks that a so-called "wartime" spending spree is going to get him votes. He needs to rediscover what his principles are, state them clearly, and get his party to back him up so that the voters can see what they're risking in putting another version of the "New Democrat" in the white house. So far, he looks like he's bogged down the way his Dad was in '91, "whistling in the dark" and wondering why his base isn't clamoring to reelect him.

You are correct. This will be tantamount to a war, and Bush needs to address all issues with an undaunted passion, or the media will destroy him. The writing is on the wall!

I see it a little differently. I saw the interview and re-read the transcript. I did not see a single question that won't be thrown about over and over in the coming campaign. This interview simply gave the President a chance to respond to the nation, where he won't necessarily have that opportunity later on. I think some of his answers were very well done, others a bit lacking.

President Bush is now in a campaign for re-election. He can't always confine himself to the safety of a Brit Hume. Sooner or later he must face the political enemies and realize that the seeker for a second term must defend the first term. The President doesn't have to worry about me; he's got my vote, but for many Americans, especially those independents who will make the difference this November, most of the questions posed today by Russert were fair game and require answers.

Your last sentence is bogus! Over 90%+ of the President's base is solidly behind him whether you admit it or not!

Okay, maybe this was a good test case, but based upon what I saw, the media is going to taunt and hammer him, and give the giggolo a free ride. Yes, Bush has to deal with them, but I predict possibly the bloodiest fight in the last 100 years.

best regards, IA

We just have to quit fuming over "how unfair the media is"
and fussing about it like there is ANY chance they can be
made to see reason. To them, 2 + 2 = 51, so we need to deal
with what IS rather than what SHOULD BE and respond
accordingly. We tend to want everyone to LIKE us so much
that we drop the ball. That, and the fact that there are
so many skeletons in the closets of the Senate particularly
that the representatives can't seem to do the right thing.
The left has too many FBI files with tidbits like Strom
Thurmond's indescretion and, goodness knows, they don't
want them getting out to the public until after the
person involved is dead and gone.

And you can count me as one of them!

President Bush has done a few things I'm not happy with, the Medicare bill and immigration the most, but he's still 100% better than having a dimowatt get the White House!

I think we will find that Pres. Bush's immigration policy is the lesser of two evils. Wait until you compare the RAT's proposal with his and I think his will be viewed a little differently than it is now. Unfortuneately, we can't just lock our borders and be done with the problem; it's not that simple.
