Is it just me or did Russert look unusually bad this morning? Puffy face, cheap looking suit, half shaved chin, hair all over the place and occasional wild eyed glances.

He had probably spent the previous evening with the network people, being "briefed" on how he should handle the interview. Something similar to Tony Soprano's "meeting" with Matthew Bevalaqua just before he whacked him.

I didn't watch, but keep in mind that Russert was likely
under some duress. Once news of the interview was out, I'm
sure he got lots of "help" on the questions. It's possible
that personally, he didn't want to ask some, or run such a
confrontational cross-examination. Consider who he takes
his marching orders from, and who's leaning on them too.
In any case, sounds like GW handled this campaign warm-up
competently.
