It's ironic that this happened around the time of the Super Bowl. Did Carlie get abducted AFTER the perp watched the half time show? Anybody???? Maybe the perp became aroused after the half time show? Just speculating here. I was asleep during half time and don't know when it occurred. FV

I would not be able to sit on a jury for a monster like this

"Would not be able to" from both a personal and practical standpoint. No defense attorney is going seat a juror who has any personal experience from the victim side of a similar crime. A juror like that might let her/his experience get in the way of believing that the defendant was just trying to keep someone from running out into traffic, don't you know.

"Sweet Jesus, this is an evil world..."

The world is not evil, just some of the people living on it are.

I just got back on too cyn...There is no one else to blame but this monster, and the system that has woefully failed Carlie and many, many others who suffer at the hands of pure evil.
I can barely read the blame game posts, let alone reply to them.
As parents, some things are beyond our control. You never know what evil your child may encounter when they walk out the door. Whether it be a stranger, friends, and sadly at times...relatives.

It's okay. I thought the girl did look older on the news reports BUT this isn't the thread to talk about how girls' dress. Besides it's no excuse at all and such ways of dressing aren't admissible in court. All that trash talk about counter cultural crap is overdone in the JJ threads.

They're having a service tonight for Carlie, Pastor Woomert, to help the healing process and a multi-media presentation. I can't tell if the service is at the church she was murdered behind. Doing some stuff outdoors at the service tonight. A lot of people are going to show up for the memorial service tonight, a very large crowd. "the healing process."

What about the criminal justice system process??? FLORIDA JUDGES SUCK. Healing process is a little too p.c. for me. FLORIDA JUDGES SUCK.

I know. It is sad that things have gotten so bad, isn't it? Last summer my nine year old son had golf lessons at a local park. The distance from the course to the playground was about a block, running the sidewalk all the way. I asked my husband if he thought that our son should just meet me at the playground afterward (I was with my other children) and he thought it best that I meet our son at the course.
Guess my children will live their childhoods riding their bikes on our cul-de-sac. It's an ourage how the actions of others have ruined our children's freedom and innocence.

FYI: The reason Smith was acquitted of kidnapping charges in 1998 was because Smith's attorney convinced that jury that "people always got the wrong idea about Smith because he wore tattoos and was a little different but he wasn't really a bad guy."

The killer should have been in prison for that kidnapping but because he looked "different", the jury bought that argument and felt sorry for him. Oh, those tattoos, the poor thing. lol

APPEARANCES GOT THIS SERIAL PREDATOR OFF FOR KIDNAPPING PREVIOUSLY IN OUR POLITICALLY CORRECT world.

the healing process

The healing process....

Makes it sound like everyone moved by the death of this girl is suffering from some mass neurosis that must be repaired by covering it with a veneer of PC non-judgmentalism. I guess in his world the concept of "righteously ticked-off" doesn't exist.

Am I alone in wondering why these people are never released in the judge's own backyard?

The entire half time show was sleazy. I didn't watch it but saw parts of it in the paper the next day. All they needed was a dungeon. It was very sado-masochistic. Predators can be set off sometimes by viewing that kind of material, not just one breast... but the lyrics, the costumes, etc.

This is not an exaggeration. There was an article in today's NY Post about the S&M shop in Chelsea, Manhattan, that sold Janet's people the outfit she wore, and they were angry about what happened because they felt it made their clothes look poorly made to just "rip off" like that. They claim there is no way you could simply pull that piece of clothing off; it was obviously altered to just snap off. They were upset that people might not know that.

Funny, I thought I was replying to post 643.

I think we are doing our girls a disservice to allow them to use makeup and wear tight, skimpy clothes at age 11. That is what I am trying to say.

This poor little girl was doing both.

(Bold added)

I'm trying to say that

a: she wasn't wearing skimpy clothes.

b: her appearance (outside of appearing vulnerable and appearing female) had nothing to do whatsoever with her abduction.

Exactly! Good they have the interview/voider process.

Lame excuse. Again, lay the blame where it belongs and that is on the head of one Joseph Smith.

His case, unfortunately, is nothing out of the ordinary. Lots of time when criminals violate probation, if it's small, the probation officer won't even pursue it, i.e., file the affidavit of violation. When the probation officer does do so, many times the judges just put them back on probation. While I agree about the fact the judge should shoulder part of the blame, I blame much, much more the idiot jury who acquitted him AFTER hearing testimony from the victim about how he grabbed her and threatened her. And (at least according to media reports) they acquitted him based on a theory that she misunderstood and he was just trying to save her from stepping out on the street. I hope those jurors feel like hell and feel guilty as hell. They are.
