How horrible.

Why can people be so cruel? Why?

Family friends gathered Friday outside the Central Church of Christ, which is a few miles from the car wash, near a hay field and woods. The church was surrounded by yellow crime scene tape Friday, and about a dozen detectives walked in a line across the field in an evidence sweep. Another 20 were at the scene. They declined to confirm whether the body was found at the church.

Life lesson for your girls and everyone:

Never leave the first crime scene (point of abduction)!!!
Yell FIRE, kick in nuts , bite, scream, many times it will catch the person off guard and give you enough time to get away or scare them off altogether (hopefully it will get someone to help you.) Never go with someone anywhere!!!

This all just makes me so sick.

I understand that he should have been off the streets. I have said that also, that he had a history. But, again, I just can't see that anything in this guy's history would have predicted he would have killed a little girl.

And I am sure that the judges, etc, that kept being lenient on him probably thought they were trying to help him out; not that they were letting a guy go to kill a little girl.

Little story. I was married to a police officer a few years back. In his "rookie year" he pulled over a vehicle with 3 teenage boys who were intoxicated. His CO pulled up behind and decided that they should not arrest the boys. And since they lived just down the road, he (CO) followed them home and let them go.

A few hours later, one of the boys got back in the vehicle, went out on the street, ran a red light, and killed a young woman. My ex lived with the guilt of that young woman's death. He wanted to take the boys in, but the CO was showing compassion. They never imagined that one of those kids would take a life.

Tebrugge, did your actions treat Carlie with dignity and courtesy?

Rest assured, the loser Tebrugge did not encourage his client to come clean about Carlie's demise. Rather, the predator remained uncooperative for days. Tebrugge should be ashamed.

That is my point. Everyone is trying to find somewhere else to lay the blame; rather than at the feet of the killer. It is unfortunate that all the pieces fell into place with this little girl.

But I am always amazed at everyone wanting to feel better because they can find something else to blame. It was the judge/jury/parents for letting her walk home alone/little girl for walking behind a closed carwash, not fighting, going with the man/et al at fault... NO, it is the man who killed who is to blame.

I don't have any unique perspective to offer on this one, or what ought to be done to the perpetrator, but I do think that we, as a society, need to get our priorities straight when it comes to prosecuting crime. We need to focus on murder, sexual assault, and property crimes, and pay less attention to such areas as susbstance abuse.

I find it hard to believe this was his first experience with a child. I am sure we will hear he has been a predator of children for some time.

I listened to a neighbor say that he was normal around kids, that he let his granddaughter go over and play with this man's daughters.

He was a drug addict, doing drug addict behavior. How could anyone have known that he would kill a little girl? Again, his one past assault case was on a grown woman.

He kidnapped an adult woman --- that should have kept him behind bars forever.

Whenever someone commits a hideous crime people who know the perp always say nice things and are shocked. I am sure the neighbors also were not privy to his extensive record or they would have been watching him all the time.

Think TED BUNDY : )

"Tebrugge should be ashamed."

He's an attorney. He knows no shame.

No, I don't believe that either. We should keep a focus on substance abuse, but put those addicted people into treatment. It's a medical problem.

Disagree--this predator's rap sheet is one long string of substance abuse busts, and probation violations for same. Paying less attention to his history is why he was on the streets and available to murder Carlie.

Here's hoping some big name scummy defense lawyer doesn't try to slither into this case to make a name for him or herself.

Geragos is busy getting another alleged child molestor off but I hear Cochran is available.

That is my point though. There is nothing that people saw that could have predicted he would kill a little girl.
