I wanna know about the alcohol????? It is not good when dieting yet it's the one vice I am not willing to give up.

Michelob Ultra is their low-carb beer, and it's OK. Less than 3 carbs a bottle. Also, Lite Beer (from Miller) has a little more than 4, I think.

Of course, Dr. Atkins recommends all things, including alcohol, in moderation. He specifically lists several non-carb hard liquors, but I don't drink spirits very often. I remember one of them was Tequila, which stuck in my mind because the very smell of straight tequila gets the gag reflex going. You see, I had a violently unpleasant episode involving tequila when I was in college... but that's a story for a different day and a different thread.

Be careful of the Subway Product.Their people don't understand the concept. You can get 20 carbs in a hurry from one of their small sandwiches.Hint they use low-fat (high sugar)condiments.

It seems to have taken FOREVER for food and restaurant industries to respond to low carb demand.

It's probably that the demand for these products is just now reaching a point where they are viable for mainstream food companies and restaurants to supply it. It costs a lot to develop and market new food items, and sufficient demand needs to be there first to make it worthwile. It'll probably follow about the same demand/supply curve as the low fat products did a number of years ago (meaning it'll be common in a couple of years).

Hi Carlo,
Please add me to your low-carb ping list. My dh has been trying Atkins since Christmas... He has lost between 7 to 10 lbs. Not as much as we had hoped.... but he is diabetic and I think may be in the "resistent" category - may need to add some sort of supplement as Atkins says - also he needs to exercise more for sure!

"That's an interesting conclusion, considering that in ketosis, the body is chemically unable to store fat.

Care to back it up?

Guess I missed something here, back what up? The Butter/Red Meats/Bacon/Eggs thingy? If so, there really is no need for me to do that considering that's one of the things Atkins says you can do. But just in case.

Da Food I just don't happen to think that Atkin's works in the long run, but at the same time I do not support eating junk food 24/7. To each their own, mine happens to be balanced Diet(not 24/7 though :)), Exercise.

Of those two Miller Lite is 1000X better. That Ultra carb tastes like carbonated funky water and has about the same kick to it. I prefer Killian's(used to be Corona before the Mexico anti Iraq thingy), but that's another story :)

Got a health food store near you, or a grocery store (like Wegman's around here) that has a health food section?

All things in moderation, is my motto these days. We have no idea what eating this way can do to our bodies 20 years from now. In fact, I hear they're telling Adkins folks to cut back on the portions of meat they're eating because of the fat. There's a different diet for every person alive, I think. Cut back on the amount you eat and go for a nice walk or work out in the gym. You'll get there eventually.

Good post. I started Atkins in late November and lost 20 lbs. The only thing about Atkins w/ me is that I eat fruits and veggies w/ little regard to carbs, and if I do strenuous excercise for multiple hours (like snowboarding all day) I eat w/out regards to carbs at all.

Don't eat too many of those either or you'll feel like you've just taken a laxative! Believe me, I know!

Walmarts has them. Sometimes you can find them in drug stores over by the diabetic supplies section.
