Immigration critics in Tennessee want to draft Rep. Tom Tancredo as a protest candidate in the upcoming Republican presidential primary, but don't expect the Littleton lawmaker to become their volunteer.
"A lot of people think my politics are crazy, but I'm not delusional. I don't think I'm going to be president of the United States," Tancredo said Tuesday, in response to a new committee, "Tennesseans for Tancredo," touting a write-in candidacy on the Internet.
Some immigration critics are so upset about President Bush's proposal to offer legal status to millions of illegal immigrants that they want to field a protest candidate in Republican presidential primaries in Tennessee and elsewhere.
A Web site, www.tennesseansfortancredo.com, cites the need to "make noise, collect signatures, build a grass-roots movement that attracts citizens from all walks of life and all political parties."
With or without Tancredo's approval, they hope critics of Bush's plan will write in Tancredo during state presidential contests.
Tancredo said he supports Bush on most issues besides immigration and could not see himself having much of an effect on Bush's chances.
This week, the representative launched "Team Tancredo," a political action committee to raise money for candidates who oppose amnesty for illegal immigrants.
"Tancredo for President" bumper stickers have been floating around the Internet for more than a year.
"It's a conversation starter," he said. "And the conversation usually starts with, 'Who the hell is Tom Tancredo?' ''

That's fine.. but that is what I honestly was told. And I might add this is from a Republican senator not a Democrat (in which I'd be HIGHLY skeptical.)

I'll take your word that they told you that but I think they are wrong. Care to say which senator's office it was? If you already did, I missed it.
It would be suicidal to push something like that through with an EO, if it is even possible.
I'll just wait to see what happens.

Dream on...want to hear some irony?
My little sister was a Dem for over 20 years and finally saw the light listening to them speak and watching how they behave. Yep, she finally took the blinders off. I applaud her.
As she came to this revelation, I came to one of my own.
I disagree with the President and I am not declaring myself a democrap, but it doesn't stop me from catching the crap here -g-.
I think I have a unique perspective now. I've insulted the Dems. Defended Freepers. Now I know how my daughter feels being bi-racial. She didn't feel accepted by either race.
I taught her that was ignorance {{prejudice}}.
Well, I have or maybe had alot of friends here that have turned on me because I am passionate about this issue and I do not like feeling ANY candidate has sold me out, particularly if it was someone who I adored like Bush.
So in a sense I am in a small club here now. Many of my true friends accept I can differ, even respect it. But if you think the ones who hurl any insult or disapproval of our President are ignorant. The ones calling them on it and carrying on about it are NO better. Get that NO better!
We ignore the posts about 'bashing' which always far outnumber the non-support of Bush, but no one has any right to 'judge' the other NO ONE! Try to remember that people, with all this childish silliness and pettiness. We are not Democraps! 98% of us here are better than that and always have been.
Do you folks remember the vision of FreeRepublic? I thought it was this...an outspoken public forum where we could agree to disagree. -Ptooie-

I had other things to say, #3Fan, but I took Polonius' advice and kept it brief. Spam it was not, and you should really put a lid on your false assumptions.

The congress could have and would have legislated meaningful measure to control our borders after 911... Then why didn't they? I don't remember reading anything about Bush vetoing immigration reforms. It has to be passed by Congress before the president can do anything. Maybe he didn't push for more restrictions, but I didn't hear him threaten to veto them if passed. So where was Congress on this issue?
Anyone remember his fight(still ongoing) to destroy the trucking industry, demanding that the borders and all highways be opened to commercial trucks from Mexico?
Ummm, yeah this fight was pre-9/11 - it goes all the way back to the Clinton years, way before Bush was ever in office. It is part of the whole NAFTA agreement.

He said it needs to be done. Most of what he said, the little he sadi, met with no applause, until the end. When he lied:
This plan is not amnesty," the president said of his plan to match workers with jobs. "I oppose amnesty because it encourages violation of our laws."-Bush
He's been saying that exact thing since 1-12, the new mantra

YES! Here it is!2. Establish a Genuine Guest Worker Program Enact a genuine Guest Worker Bill (HR 3534) to allow any foreign national to enter the US legally to work for up to one year in a job that cannot be filled by a citizen. Require employers to advertise all jobs on an internet bulletin board and for two weeks before hiring a Guest Worker. Require illegal aliens already in the U.S. to first return home and apply for jobs through the legal processes.

Bush realizes he's stepped in a steamy load by proposing his hairbrained the amnesty for ILLEGALS scheme. If this were true, Bush would not have "wiped his shoes on the conservative carpet" during the SOTU last night.

Right, Tancredo supports Bush for president.
Tancredo is running for his House seat again.
But, we can't let the facts confuse the people who don't believe he knows who he supports, or what office he's running for.

"Who would the terrorist vote for" If he were an illegal alien wanting to get legalized?
If he was hoping to be one of the 100,000 alien Muslims getting green cards this year?
If he were a member of the House of Saud and needed his 9-11 involvement bogusly classified Top Secret?
