Tancredo for president, group says
Rocky Mountain News ^ | January 21, 2004 | M.E. Sprengelmeyer

Immigration critics in Tennessee want to draft Rep. Tom Tancredo as a protest candidate in the upcoming Republican presidential primary, but don't expect the Littleton lawmaker to become their volunteer.

"A lot of people think my politics are crazy, but I'm not delusional. I don't think I'm going to be president of the United States," Tancredo said Tuesday, in response to a new committee, "Tennesseans for Tancredo," touting a write-in candidacy on the Internet.

Some immigration critics are so upset about President Bush's proposal to offer legal status to millions of illegal immigrants that they want to field a protest candidate in Republican presidential primaries in Tennessee and elsewhere.

A Web site, www.tennesseansfortancredo.com, cites the need to "make noise, collect signatures, build a grass-roots movement that attracts citizens from all walks of life and all political parties."

With or without Tancredo's approval, they hope critics of Bush's plan will write in Tancredo during state presidential contests.

Tancredo said he supports Bush on most issues besides immigration and could not see himself having much of an effect on Bush's chances.

This week, the representative launched "Team Tancredo," a political action committee to raise money for candidates who oppose amnesty for illegal immigrants.

"Tancredo for President" bumper stickers have been floating around the Internet for more than a year.

"It's a conversation starter," he said. "And the conversation usually starts with, 'Who the hell is Tom Tancredo?' ''

I guess you don't get it.

Nobody is against immigrants - I certainly am not. An immigrant is somebody who applies for a visa, waits their turn and comes into my Country - LEGALLY.

Ann illegal alien is a law-breaking invader who sneaks across the border, takes cheap jobs, can have a criminal record or contagious disease, doesn't file an income tax return, uses our support system, and jumps in fornt of the line of LEGAL immigrants waiting to get in. ALL Americans - except for Native American Indians - were decended from immigrants - including Mayflower people.

SO, if you approve of people who line jump, sneak across the border, elbow aside LEGAL immigrants, and might possibly be Islamofascists bent on terror, ignore this posting. Otherwise, write in Tancrdo for President in the Primary, then go out and fight like hell to get George Bush re-elected to a Second Term in the General Election. Tha's what I plan to do.

I can't call you on what you are really attempting to do because it probably would get pulled -- but its obvious.

Everytime this issue comes up we have to endure pictures of hispanics in a negative context. That was your point. "Damn Bush because he let THESE guys into our country."

Because Bush needs to get and hear the message loud and clear.

He doesn't care about polls, he only cares about how people will vote.

You make sure he gets the message by letting him know that he may not get your vote.

Then why is it being reported that Karl Rove is trying to find someone from within the GOP to run against and oust Tancredo?

Do you have proof of that, or is it just lunatic rantings from the internet?

I just am getting more confused with the whole debate because people say illegal immigration, illegal immigrants, illegal aliens, undocumented workers

The first three terms are accurate.

undocumented workers is the liberal politically correct term for people who entered the country illegally and work here illegally or maybe don't work at all.

Actually if the law passes they wouldn't be illegal until they failed to apply for documentation under the plan. Then anyone crossing without documentation already lined up would be illegal.

As a leader, Bush should stick to his Oath of Office. He isn't. Period. He did great in Iraq and deserves kudos. His tax cuts, and making them permanent are great.

Pardoning 12 million people who broke the laws just getting here? His recent Medicare bill? McCain-Feingold when he had "constitutional questions" on it but passed the buck to the USSc anyway?

No.

I'll be writing in Tancredo.

Consider it whatever you want, the point is to send Bush a message. He only understands one language these days, votes.

The battle will be won or lost in Congress and not in the Oval Office.

Instead of trying to elect a Democrat you would do better to influence the legislation.

Okay I understand what you're saying. Bush is only proposing this amnesty program/guest worker (whatever it is at this point) but doesn't it STILL have to go through congress? It's not as if he can just enact it on his own right?

I'm not sure how but I know I'll get through the disappointment.

Everytime this issue comes up we have to endure pictures of hispanics in a negative context.

No. Everytime this issue comes up they're having broken our laws by entering this country ILLEGALLY pictures Hispanics in a negative context.

That was your point. "Damn Bush because he let THESE guys into our country."

No. It was those damned inneffective Border Patrol agents who let them in our country. Bush is just proposing granting them amnesty for having done so.

I can predict their response. The Republicans in congress are all pansies that cannot stand up to George B-- no -- Rove.

Exactly! That's why people should be writing their representatives instead of promoting 3rd party votes or write-ins.

So . . . as I suspected, you have no proof, just lunatic rantings from the internet. Unless Dennis is a close confidant of Karl Rove?

I didn't watch last night but I wondered what he said about the amnesty program. I wonder if he has any opinions on the strong protest against this 'guest' worker program. It's anything BUT a guest worker program.
