Was no other way to deal with theat this week other than cancelling flights?
A. Conversations with France, we agreed it was the best way to handle situation.

It may help security and may help take out a bad guy, but if the bad guy is a suicide bomber anyway, I don't think he cares if he dies trying to carry out his mission.
So the threat of an armed marshall wouldn't seem to deter the terrorist.
But hopefully, an armed marshall would be able to take out the terrorist and keep him from fulfilling his mission of terrorism.

Tom Ridge is damned if he does and if he doesn't As a government employee (that means he works for us) do you think Tom Ridge's actions are above reproach? Isn't it a long tradition within the US to have lively debates on the impact and effectiveness of various government policies?

Why don't you go over to CHAT and start a cat picture thread? What do cats have to do with Ridge's press conference?

I believe both of those points were minor compared to his whining about Ridge and the Patriot Act. But, let's include him in this discussion.
What issues does he have with Ridge?
What specifically about the Patriot Act concern him? Has there been any activity which has supported his concern?
Securing borders? Great idea. How? How much will it cost? Who will do it? What time frame?

These newsnetworks make me sick. Why even broadcast the man's press conference if you're gonna cut him off and show the idiot pundits giving their take.
Ridge is still on C-SPAN.

Yes, understood (and the Richard Harris version was the best ever filmed IMO). But what does Don Quixote have to do with this particular press conference?
To: NittanyLion
Tom Ridge surely has a lively debate going on in the administration, with the President, with the cabinet, etc. I don't see a debate here other than those who are angry they aren't having the ear of Tom Ridge as well as his decision to follow their personal lead. If anyone thinks these issues,,the borders, arming citizens, etc, haven't been discussed in the WH and with Tom Ridge, well they are mistaken in my opinion. Sure we debate agencies and their impacts. But most of us assume that the people who are running the country at this time are trying their best. If you begin by calling their stupid, dim, dumb, etc and continue with attributing malice to their motivations, the debate is over. It is just propaganda at that point.

Since September 11, 2001, the President, the military, the administration, homeland security, the air marshalls, etc., etc., have done a perfect job.
