U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Houston, said today that the capture of Saddam Hussein does nothing to change her opposition to the war in Iraq.
"I believe we should have had a congressional vote before declaring war, and we should have allowed U.N. inspectors time to finish their work," Jackson Lee said during a news conference at Bush Intercontinental Airport. "As to WMDs (weapons of mass destruction), the fact they have not been found I believe shows I was right."
One of the more outspoken congressional critics of the war in Iraq, Jackson Lee had returned to Houston from a recent terrorism fact-finding mission to Europe and the Middle East. She and nine other members of the House Select Committee on Homeland Security met with officials in Spain, Italy, Syria and Israel, she said.
She praised troops from the 4th Infantry Division based at Ft. Hood for catching the the former Iraqi dictator Saturday in an underground hideout at a farm house south of Tikrit. She said Saddam's capture presents an opportunity for the United States to form a broader international coalition to implement and maintain a peaceful government in Iraq. She also called for international participation in Saddam's trial.
Jackson Lee said she was so impressed with Syrian President Bashar Assad during her visit that she invited him to speak in Texas, even though his country is designated by the United States as a rogue state and a sponsor of terrorism.
"I'm sure someone will write a headline, 'Congresswoman invites a terrorist'," Jackson Lee said. "But that's not what I'm trying to do."
She said Assad showed his willingness to negotiate by meeting with the congressional delegation despite President Bush's signing on Friday of the Syria Accountability and Lebanese Sovereignty Restoration Act of 2003, which could impose sanctions on Syria.
"He's a 39-year-old president who even gave us a picture of him and his children," Jackson Lee said. "Let's see what he can do. He's not his father," a reference to Hafez Assad, who ruled Syria with an iron grip for 30 years before his death in 2000.

Any man who gives you a picture of his wife and children can't be all that bad, could he?

"He's a 39-year-old president who even gave us a picture of him and his children," Jackson Lee said. "After that I'm not sure what he said because I was distracted by his shiny cufflinks"
How can someone be so proud of being so agressively stupid?

RIGHT ON, I too, thought immediately, if the guy gave her a picture of himself and his family. WE do need to look at Syria. She has real profound insight. WOW

A product of public education and the NEA. Keep 'em stupid and they will always vote for the demo side of the ticket.

Honest to gawd, this woman doesn't have the sense God gave a rock.
She has NO idea she/they were used.

Lee belongs to that closet school of socialists who is too dumb to know she is a socialist.

Congress did vote
The UN had 12 years
The search for WMD continues. FDR never produced Adolf Hitler and didn't the search for Hitler go on for quite awhile before it was discovered that he committed suicide in spring 1945?

Sheila, Saddam's WMDs are still where he hid them before the invasion: Mars. LOL! I completely forgot about that! Didn't she tour NASA once and ask to see the flag that we put on Mars? (or something like that?!)

Well, I never thought I'd pull a "Natalie Maines", but "just so you know"...I'm ashamed that Miz Jackson-if-you're-nasty-Lee is from my home state of Texas. Her antics are nothing new, but are always refreshingly stupid. You go, girl! Way to continue making a completely irrelevant arse of yourself!

Humble...Isn't this your...Isn't she your...errr... She was MINE from 1995-1998 when I lived near downtown Houston.
She is a complete embarrassment for Houston-area residents. Even people I know that are "left of center" are embarrassed by some of her actions / statements.
To: HennepinPrisoner
Sheila Jackson Lee's stupidity is only exceeded by her arrogance. Taken separately, these two traits are serious character flaws, but together they make for a truly obnoxious human being who is utterly unfit to hold public office.
