Lieberman: Dean Would Have Kept Saddam in Power

Hours after news broke of Saddam Hussein's capture, Democratic presidential hopeful Joseph Lieberman slammed his party's front-runner Howard Dean as a defacto ally of the Iraqi dictator because of his long term opposition to the war.

"If Howard Dean had his way, Saddam Hussein would be in power today, not in prison,” Lieberman told NBC's "Meet the Press."

"I always felt he was ticking time bomb,” the Connecticut Democrat explained.

While Dean has said in recent days that he was not sure whether Hussein should stand trial for war crimes, Lieberman told "Meet the Press," "This evil man has to face the death penalty. The International Tribunal at The Hague can not order the death penalty.”

The lone war hawk among the nine candidates seeking his party's nomination, Lieberman called Saddam "a homicidal maniac," saying that he "caused the deaths of more than a million people, including now 460 Americans who went to overthrow him.”

For his part, Dean told reporters on the campaign trail in Florida, "I think this is a day to celebrate the fact that Saddam has been captured and we'll have to worry about the campaign later on.

"President Bush deserves a day of celebration. We have our policy differences but we won't be discussing those today," he added.

No, Dr. Dean, it would not be a good day to discuss your pacifist approach to dealing with international terrorism and the threat to the United States. You are immanently unqualified to do so ...

From MSNBC:

“This is the choice the voters have to make in the primaries: If Howard Dean had his way, Saddam Hussein would be in power today, not in prison,” Lieberman told Russert.

The Dems who supported the war, i.e. Leiberman and Gephardt, are feeling bold now that Saddam is on the dock. What took you so long, Joe???

Lurch is now going to say he was ready to single handedly capture Ho Chi Mihn in Vietnam, but Nixon stopped him.

As a constituent of and frequent contributor to Joe's email account, I would differ. But we're all entitled to our opinions.

Lieberman should go one more step. Dean would have kept Hussein in power and his supporters (Gore and Clinton) did keep him power.

Isn't it fun to sit back and watch the Dem candidates implode right before our eyes?

The Democrats would have let Saddam stay in power!   There would have been even more mass graves.  There would have been even more terrorism on American soil.

Please let Howard Dean be the demonRAT nominee, please let Howard Dean be the demonRAT nominee...

By Election Day '04, a demonRAT antiwar candidate will be a national comedy.

Ouch, that's gotta hurt.

You're his constituent? I'm sorry. Really. :-) But good ole Joe has said some things that none of the other candidates would say.

Of course, that doesn't mean I'd vote for him. It doesn't go that far. LOL

Lets not outsmart our selves,,,we want DEANIE-WEENEY to win the demoncrap nomination....so I say go DEANIE-WEENEY !!!! on to your partys nomination.....

I absolutely agree! GO DEAN!!! heh, heh ;-)

Actually we should push for Ge-fart since he would have a tougher time winning against Bush simply because Ge-fart is soooo picken' boring and uninspiring.

One can really upset your opponents by covert operations. Lets say Joe is mad enough after the back stab from Gore and the rest last week. Lets say he is mad enough to accept a donation/donations from a friendly supporter to stay in the race just to raise cain within his party. Then at the end pulls out to support someone closer to his views such as the republican candidate. I think you get my drift.

Lieberman has always had balls.

Oh, come on! Nerf Balls if ha has any. He's pro-war simply because of his jewish roots. (And I find nothing wrong with that) But balls? The guy folded as a VP candidate on school choice (NEA) & morality (music industry). Ask his friend Bill Bennett if Joe has balls.
