Free Republic Hall of Fame Threads
Free Republic ^ | Friday, November 28, 2003 | Free Republic

Posted on 11/28/2003 5:52:23 PM PST by Momaw Nadon

Since its inception, Free Republic has been the world's premeire online gathering place for the discussion of the news, issues, opinions, and just about everything else.

There have been several times when the members of Free Republic have posted important breaking news stories first, scooping the outlets of the mainstream media.

Some exemplary threads merit mention in what I'd like to call the Free Republic Hall of Fame Threads.

I believe this is a good way to remember and share some of the most important discussions that have occured on Free Republic.

The three threads that I would like to nominate for induction into the Free Republic Hall of Fame Threads are as follows:

1. World Trade Center

2. [AP SCOOP] Space Shuttle Columbia Will Be Visible In San Francisco Area (6AM Pacific)

3. President Bush is eating in my undisclosed location (UPDATE: Undisclosed location is IRAQ!)

Those are some pretty amazing threads.

Another one would be the day we went to war in Baghdad. I don't have a URL for it.

Weren't you the one who overheard Bob Schrum on the Acela train, talking about how they were going to use Wellstone's funeral for campaigning?

I remember you took some grief for that thread, until the Funerally aired that night. I hereby nominate your thread.

I'm still searching the FR archives. Great choice!

There was a great thread about three weeks ago in which someone had posted an article about the Global warming being caused by the sun. The well meaning poster really tried to encourage debate, but it turned out to be one of the funniest threads I have seen. It was something about solar flares I believe..

I hope no one brings up that stupid Hobbit Hole thread.

That one was the worst of all time.

Gosh, I wish there was an easy way to dig up threads from Election Night 2000. It's so hard to remember titles from three years ago. :(

I remember one post from Palm Beach, early early in the morning of 11/8. Something along the lines of "I just got the weirdest recorded phone call. Asking if I had had any trouble using the ballot, and if so to call Wechsler's office. What's up with that?"

And let's not forget the "CLINTON IMPEACHED!" live thread. What a wild ride that was!

It was the Monica Lewinski story and the one about the intern who was mysteriously killed that persuaded me to sign up. Those were the days when Drudge and FreeRepublic were working in tandem and between them were pretty much responsible for getting clinton impeached.
