Do you shop at REI??

Do you shop at REI or Barnes and Nobel or Clearcreek?

If so, you might want to reconsider or at least drop them a line and let them know how you feel about their businesses raising money to defeat President Bush.

I have already been on the phone and e-mail with many of the companies mentioned. Surprise, some of them are surprised themselves that they are on this site!!!

Just talked to someone on the 800 number. They are aware of it and are putting a stop to it. She said this type of thing violated their marketing rules or some such.

Bonheaded post. This guy is just posting up affiliate links and trying to get people to spend their shekels thru them by appealing to their politics. The companies involved bear no culpability, and if you think otherwise you just don't understand the affiliate marketing concept. Anyone here could do the same thing and promise to donate a portion of the proceeds to the Bush re-election campaign.

You're probably right, and most of us I think do understand affiliate marketing concepts. I've used similar things myself with Amazon and B&N on my web sites. However, I've never associated something with politics on the basis that if you do, you associate the NAME of the company and thus can have your affilite yanked if they dislike this.

On the other hand if they do (REI for instance) want this, then we will find out one way or another. Writing letters to them will get them to yank their name from the site.

If not, we can boycott. We've that right you know.

OK, I called Dell and they had no knowledge of the website. They were upset and said that it had nothing to do with the website.

Good find!

I just emailed everyone on that site (with the exception of David's cookies, which doesn't seem to have e mail contact info and, obviously, the Seirra Club) with a variation of the following:

Dear Sirs,

I just saw your affiliation with this website.

http://www.shoptodropbush.com/

Congratulations, my family and I will never shop with you again.

You should probably think twice before aligning yourself with a contentious viewpoint.  Not good corporate policy.

Name
Address
e mail

I tend to suspect what others here have said, that this goofball is doing this without the knowledge of the retailers.  I can't imagine that this many corporations would align themselves with something that will enrage half of their customer base.

If this is the case, I have a feeling that shoptodropbush.com will be off line at some point later today.

I'll post back here if I get any responses.

Coldwater Creek

Yes, Mrs. CD also buys from there, I think.
It's a catalog, right?

Thanks for that update .. I just send a couple emails to different companies asking for a response to this with a warning that if it's found to be true .. they will NEVER get another purchase from me.

Great! Perhaps this guy will be in a little trouble of his own.

He'll just blame mean-spirited Republicans though!

FYI: This site is not an endorsement by those companies; they were selected by the site-originating moron from companies that provide links via the banner exchange services. It looks like most of these are tied to Linkshare.com; and I would wager that this moron's use of these links in this fashion is in violation of their rules.

Linkshare.com contact information:

This moron truly needs to be told that he needs to find another way to fleece the American public.

Just damn.

If you want on the new list, FReepmail me. This IS a high-volume PING list...

Hickory Farms was unaware and they are unamused. Will take action.

Please give these businesses a chance to remedy the situation before we boycott.

They also have Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, and Dell Computers on their list.

I seriously doubt these companies would allow their names to be used like this.

Exactly right!

It's important that everyone take the time to contact these companies individually!

I am sure they do NOT know that their names are being used in this way.

Contact all you do business with!

What a great idea! I spend at least a thousand a year at Amazon.com & would be happy to go through a FR link.

I sent a very nice e-mail to them via their website asking them if they even knew that they were being linked at this vile website.

I simply stated where the store is that I shop at as well as their mail order catalog that I subscribe to so they hopefully would realize that I am a real customer with $$.

Their clothes are AWESOME and I will be greatly distressed if they don't remedy this situation. We'll see if they value ALL of their customers won't we?

I often do as long as they were associated with this site. I also am sending this site to many of my friends who don't visit Free Republic but who support the President. We must be vigilant.

How about we FIRST find out how accurate this information is

If any one can find the truth .. FREEPERS CAN!

Now that I've thought about if for 5 more minutes, how could one site donate that much with the campaign finance reform out there (and I admit I know nothing about campaign finance reform)? It seems like if it was linked to off of say GWB's site it could be 'income' but not specifically donations. For this guy first the check is going to him then he's going to donate it. Even if he donates in the 'buyer's name' what if the buyer already contributed the max?

Enquiring minds want to know:)

It sounds as though this is a scam to resell items over the inter-net.

This is not an endorsement by the companies on that page - he's using Linkshare.com to get banner links that will pay him for people purchasing using those links.

I'm certain that he's violating their rules by using their content in this fashion.

A well placed call/e-mail complaint to Linkshare.com would more than likely take care of him and his moronic site rather quickly, and in short order.
