Do you shop at REI or Barnes and Nobel or Clearcreek?

If so, you might want to reconsider or at least drop them a line and let them know how you feel about their businesses raising money to defeat President Bush.

"This has to be a scam. They also have Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, and Dell Computers on their list. I seriously doubt these companies would allow their names to be used like this."

Not really a scam - ANYONE with any website can sign up online for these affiliate programs. FR could run it if they want. I would bet REI had no clue who these people were ( until now ).

"It would be funny if this is just a free market loving, capitalist republican making money off of liberal suckers."

You just gave me a good idea!

I see Hickory Farms, Lilian Vernon and Sharper Image on here also. Amazon too, but I think they take links from everyone.

Bonheaded post. This guy is just posting up affiliate links and trying to get people to spend their shekels thru them by appealing to their politics. The companies involved bear no culpability, and if you think otherwise you just don't understand the affiliate marketing concept. Anyone here could do the same thing and promise to donate a portion of the proceeds to the Bush re-election campaign.

My email to Amazon.com.

I have been a long time customer of Amazon.com. I have just been made aware that you are doing business and associated with http://www.shoptodropbush.com/. They state that they will donate a percentage of their procedes from Amazon.com to defeat President Bush in 2004.

I will no longer be making any purchases through Amazon.com, and will make sure that my family, friends, and associates boycott Amazon.com until your association with http://www.shoptodropbush.com/ discontinues.

I have been a member of REI since the single store on Pine Street in Seattle, 35+ years ago. I know a few employees in the corporate office and have worked on a few special projects for them over the years. I am contacting them now about this and will update this thread with a response from the "suits".

Never spend a penny there.

Any particular reason for that?

Well, I just called all the Barnes & Nobles here in Raleigh. I am just furious about this; and I told them ALL I am planning on calling the papers and the TV stations.

Can they do this without notifying their customers???

It would surprise me if David Dell was supporting a group to defeat Bush. The Dells are from Austin and his wife designed the ignaugual gown for one of the Bush twins.

This has to be a scam.

Maybe, or maybe not. On first read through it looks like there might be two categories of merchants.

Amazon and maybe others, have a program where if someone buys something with a link off of a particular site they get some percentage rebate from the perchase. Lots of web sites make some money this way. In fact the site even says under "how we do this" that the companies may not support them politically.

I'm a little less clear about whether others (REI, Coldwater creek) with the bigger links than Amazon make a separate contribution for each purchase linked through this site. The reason is I didn't see a big graphic Amazon link - so maybe shopping with other sites gets better donations?

Not a bad idea....maybe our side should set something like up, cuz most of my buying is online...I'd link through a donation site.

CULPABILITY? Maybe not but I choose where I want to drop my money carefully. They can also be careful with whom they are affiliated.

They can get their logo and participation removed from this guys site if they want my money.
