Former President Donald Trump on Friday slammed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis over a past move to end a prized ethanol mandate, foreshadowing a likely primary clash to come in Iowa, the state that will kick off the entire process.
"Why on earth (farmer's love earth!) would the wonderful people of the GREAT State of Iowa vote for Ron DeSanctimonious when he voted and fought to KILL Ethanol (and will definitely do so if given the chance) ..." Trump wrote in part in an early morning post on his social media platform, Truth.
DeSantis, Trump concluded, would "beg for mercy" in Iowa. The former president also touted his own policies, including his overhaul of the North American Free Trade Agreement known as the USMCA.
Trump's screed came just before DeSantis made his post-midterm Iowa debut during a Friday afternoon event in Davenport, Iowa, an appearance to ostensibly promote his new bestselling book.

And here’s an example (regardless of one’s opinion of DeSantis in general) - I hate the states that wield such agri-power. Their greed and insanity have caused $billions in damage to internal combustion-powered vehicles and have cost us much in fuel costs as well with their ethanol mandates and subsidies.
And for ANY supposedly “Conservative” politician to play games by supporting the insanity - well - hard for me to respect them.
Must be nice to be able to mandate Americans buy your product - even though by every measure it is a fraud/scam/stupid thing.
You all know it’s about Iowa, You know it’s the ELECTION, not the primary. Once we’re in charge phase it out over 5 years.
Can’t wait to hear what DJT thinks of SSI cuts. Oh wait!
“Trump should have opposed the ethanol subsidy also.”
Trump remembered that Obama won Indiana in 2008 because McCain opposed ethanol.
Trump is always very strategic. He knows what you need to do to win.
Cruz advocated for a five year phase out.
Wouldn’t it be nice if we could return to using gas in engines and corn as food?
Ethanol also props up the gas-powered lawn equipment industry because it destroy small engines.
I guess I forgot the < /sarc tag. Ethanol is garbage.
I naively thought it wasn't necessary.
Trump has incredible instincts. When he works from his instincts, I swear he’s untouchable.
He also has profoundly stupid thoughts. He’s not working from his instincts here.
Corn subsidies for ethanol production are objectively bad for America. They raise food prices, price out competing crops, which raises their prices, and drain farmland of nutrients because it’s so much more profitable to densely pack corn into an acre of land year after year and saturate the land with fertilizer rather than rotate crops.
Ethanol also destroys machinery not meant to run on ethanol.
When was the last time Trump filled up the gas tank on a lawnmower?
Ethanol is a disaster. It takes more fossil fuel energy (diesel) than you get back out of it. Google ethanol and David pimentel. It is a bribe paid to Archer Daniels Midlands and corn growers to get them to vote republican paid for with taxpayer money to the detriment of the rest of the country.
The government requires us to use ethanol in our fuel for no reason other than to inflate demand for corn. How is that not a boondoggle?
Met a farmer....planted ALL his acreage in corn...and took it to the Ethanol plant a mile down the road. He made a killing.
Business Insider. What a joke.
Buc-ee’s in Texas frequently sells ethanol-free at a similar, or sometimes even lower, price than regular E-15. I love it.
I hate Ethanol.
She is so fat ... (How fat is she ?) . ... she has her own event horizon.
I for one want ethanol entirely OUT of gasoline.
Yes, embracing politically popular decisions even if they're bad for the country.
First, he pledges to not touch entitlement spending and now this.
At lease DeSantis has integrity, even if Trump criticizes him for it.
Trump is correct.
