Former President Donald Trump on Friday slammed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis over a past move to end a prized ethanol mandate, foreshadowing a likely primary clash to come in Iowa, the state that will kick off the entire process.
"Why on earth (farmer's love earth!) would the wonderful people of the GREAT State of Iowa vote for Ron DeSanctimonious when he voted and fought to KILL Ethanol (and will definitely do so if given the chance) ..." Trump wrote in part in an early morning post on his social media platform, Truth.
DeSantis, Trump concluded, would "beg for mercy" in Iowa. The former president also touted his own policies, including his overhaul of the North American Free Trade Agreement known as the USMCA.
Trump's screed came just before DeSantis made his post-midterm Iowa debut during a Friday afternoon event in Davenport, Iowa, an appearance to ostensibly promote his new bestselling book.

What would we do without ethanol added to our gasoline?
Wasn’t Cruz against the subsidy too and actually won in Iowa?
Trump has been losing me and my support with his tactics.
This is another few percentage drop. Implicitly endorsing ethanol is stupid.
Trump should have opposed the ethanol subsidy also. Instead he sold himself for IOWA votes. In that particular case it was MACA (make America corrupt again).
Did Trump forget which party’s nomination he is running for?
Why do you need ethanol unless you a global warming stooge.
Trump is a coward
Whoa … she’s big…
When she sits around the house … feel free to finish…
Donald, don’t be stupid.
Yes. Ted Cruz won Iowa caucuses in 2016 despite opposition to ethanol mandate. And Cruz was endorsed by Rep. Steve King from the heart of ethanol producing NW Iowa, and also the endorsement of State Sen. Randy Feenstra, Steve King’s successor in the same CD.
Guess he doesn’t know how many of us think corn should be in our stomachs and not in our tanks.
Ethanol should be killed.
How dare Desantis vote against Big Ethanol subsidies!
I’m glad that my local station still sells gas without carburator clogging food additives. Even though I have to pay $4/gal for it, it’s worth every penny.
I don’t trust either DeSantis or Trump at this point. Trump may be correct on the politics, but DeSantis is right on the policy. Ethanol is an abomination that we should have unwound long ago. Had Trump dealt with it in his admin, it wouldn’t continue to be the drag on us all that it is.
