Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump have yet to shore up their bases.
Mrs. Clinton is looking to heal the primary wounds of rival Vermont Sen. Bernard Sanders and his progressive supporters, who have threatened to stay home in November. Donald Trump has had a tough time attracting the support of establishment conservatives who worry hes too centrist.
And each needs their bases to coalesce in order to win the presidency.
An analysis completed by The Wall Street Journal suggested since 1992, every candidate who ended up winning the White House had a favorable rating of at least 80 points among their own party. According to the latest WSJ/NBC News poll, Mr. Trump was dead even in his positives and negatives among Republicans and Mrs. Clinton was up among Democrats by 43 percentage points. Meaning, they both have a long way to go before they reach that 80 point threshold, if at all.
But there is something that could help them get there. Their vice presidential pick....

So 85% of the experts and Jim are wrong? Those experts include the last two solicitors general of the United States.
There’s so much about him that makes my blood run cold.
Bernie said that Hillary wasn’t qualified to be president. Kind of awkward for him to walk that back.
Agree!
“Trump wants an experience politician who can help him get legislation pushed thru Congress and Cruz dont know nuttin about that.”
Just hope, altho I can easily see him in the Trump administration, that NEWT is not chosen...I can see Hillary’s ads-—2 GUYS,SIX Wives !
Ted Cruz already said no way. I hope Hillary does not pick Sanders.
Ashley Goldman Cruz can be trusted as much as Uncle Oswald.
Not Cruz.
Jeff Sessions would help with congress
Cruz is way too disloyal and self-centered to be chosen as VP.
The true key isn’t how much it’s been beat to death on FR but rather what would the
SCOTUS rule if’n it was ever before them for a ruling. If Cruz was 2nd fiddle on
the ticket and the ticket won I suspect we’d see the dems knocking on the SCOTUS
door loud and hard.
But all said I don’t think Cruz will be the VP nominee. Until he is don’t sweat it.
Rand Paul as VP would possibly be a Hillary-killer gathering disaffected Dems. So would commitments to weed legalization. However, Rand Paul being one heart murmur from the OO is frightening. Though not a tenth as frightening as Hillary.
Since DT supports clean coal technology, I wish he would say that clean coal technology is a bargaining chip he will use in trade deals with Asia; their adoption of our technical equipment built by our workers can give Asian nations more favored trade status regarding tariff adjustments by the United States. Trump could justifiably say then to the eco-freaks that while AGW is a scam, the toxins in our oceans are quite real, and he as President could clean up 80% of the source. In short, a vote for Donald Trump would do more for the health of the planet than any Progressive cause they’ve given money and sweat to in their lifetime. That might be a strong seller.
No way Trump is going to pick Cruz the whiney loser Canadian.
Cruz brings nothing but trouble to the table. He has zero chance of being selected. He is hated by the GOPe only slightly less than Trump.
That is my opinion yes, they are wrong if they said that. Wrong. ( ps: perhaps they might someday reveal what they thought the constitutional framers meant if not the obvious from the history of the document and For that matter the nascent republic— specifically who was being deemed ineligible if not persons whose parents were t Americans and those born in foreign lands? Like, those were the only determinants! Maybe our founders secretly felt that people who ate Big Macs should be ineligible? Or?). We see exactly what the constitutional framers were afraid of — right now — with the infiltrator in chief destroying America from within our white hut. Anyway you asked for my opinion so there you are. ———As the ancient wisdom teaches us, “Be careful what you pray for, you just might get it!” Ha! Have a good day, fhc
If hilary tells him i am one term and done he would do it but we all know she is a liar
The VP has the same eligibility requirements as the POTUS. Sorry Ted...
See #16.
If Trump is to pick an also-ran, I would say Kasich or Paul not Cruz. Cruz won’t deliver a single State that Trump would already win. Kasich could possibly deliver Ohio for Trump. And Paul would bring a strong fresh look from a lot of Bernie supporters.
Cruz? A lot of angst and not much else...
Neat idea. Better access to American markets in exchange for purchasing and implementing our high tech clean coal technology.
I didn’t see a suggestion box on Trump’s website but with his Internet savvy he should crowdsource innovative solutions like this
