ABC News(DES MOINE, Iowa) â Congressman Steve King has endorsed Ted Cruz for President â saying Cruz is the "answer to my prayers" and that Ben Carson and Donald Trump's lack of Washington, D.C., experience makes the job "harder" for them.
"I do believe that Ted Cruz is the full package, the constitutional conservative that can restore the soul of America," King told reporters in a conference room at the Des Moines Marriott.
King is an influential voice in Iowa politics who was courted by many conservative Republicans, including Bobby Jindal, Rick Santorum and Mike Huckabee. He said he made his decision Friday following a foreign trip to Europe where "I saw the erosion of the culture...because of the colossal cultural suicide they're committing." King was asked why he decided not to endorse either of the two Republican frontrunners, Ben Carson or Donald Trump, whose beliefs align with his.
âItâs going to be harder for either one of them to see whatâs going on in Washington, D.C., in K street, in the network," King said. "What's going on in the House and Senate and how does that get leveraged from the executive branch. I donât hear either one of them talking about the balance of powers between the executive, the legislative and the judicial branches of government. And I donât hear them talking about Supreme Court appointments.....

Basically, Steve King said that both Trump and Carson lack the necessary understanding of the Constitution to do the job.
Steve King endorses Cruz? Surely Cruz can do better than eGOP.
We are underwhelmed. I suppose every endorsement counts, but this one doesn’t count for much.
And Donald has better skills than the Washington politicians do.To boot the Donald is unfettered.
I went by an endorsement once; I won’t ever do it again.
Are you perhaps thinking of Peter King of New York, not Steve King of Iowa?
My conservative (?) Senator and conservative (?) Congressman both endorsed Jeb Bush. I sort of ignore them.
My mistake, I was thinking of Peter King rather than Steve King.
Apologies to Steve King.
Endorsements are far more determined by personal relationships and non-ideological matters than most care to admit. Steve King and Ted Cruz are close friends.
Many conservative politicians endorse more moderate candidates. Remember the wailing over some of Sarah Palin’s endorsements?
Bottom line is that endorsements just shouldn’t be relied on without a lot more information.
When he says “lack of Washington, D.C., experience” as the basis of his decision then he is being out of touch with the current electorate mood. Just saying.
Cong. Steve King's endorsement means lots for the people of IA and perhaps many more people from the Midwest.
Interesting insight from Rep. King.
Peter King is a moderate. Steve King is as non-establishment as you can find among people who are actual, elected office-holders.
My mistake. i mistook Stephen King for NY Peter King.Sorry.

Steve King is one of the good guys, but we do not need another DC insider with “experience” in government. We need a wreaking ball, release The Donald!
Donald talks a good game, but his support of governmental use of eminent domain/Kelo to seize private land and give to developers lost me before he even ran.
I do appreciate what he says, but what he does and who he has supported in the past (e.g, Hillary, ObamaCare) make me think he is just a blow hard.
This is a huge endorsement, especially in Iowa...I think Cruz will win Iowa with this. People will try and minimize it...it doesn’t matter, reality its a very big deal.
So, standing in the well of the Senate and challenging the Senate leadership, calling out his own party's Majority Leader as a liar doesn't count?
So, exposing the establishment of both parties as co-enablers of crony capitalism and alerting the entire country to the evils of the Washington Cartel doesn't count?
May I ask you, sir, has The Donald done anything more than Ted Cruz -- who is hardly a member of the Washington establishment -- to expose the problem and offer solutions?
