GOP Beltway Insiders Krauthammer and Will Describe the Substantive Reasons Sarah Palin Can’t Win
Hot Air ^ | June 5, 2011 | Director Blue

Charles Krauthammer‘s substantive reasons that Sarah Palin can’t win in 2012:

I think it would make no sense for her to run. I think her chances of winning the nomination are small. The chances of winning the general election are probably nil. I think, for the same reasons you articulated, 60 percent negatives. That’s almost impossible to overcome. And it isn’t as if that is forever. Hillary Clinton had very high negatives at many points in her career. But over time, they tend to soften.

…The problem with her, I think, is that she is not schooled. I don’t mean she didn’t go to the right schools… But when it comes to policies, she’s had two and a half years to school herself, and she hasn’t. And that’s a problem. You want a president who will be able to not have to learn on the job. We’ve already had that… …with President Obama and with others… It’s the lack of effort to school herself and the lack of insight to see that she needs it…

…I think if you’re going to master policy, especially world affairs, you’ve got to know history. As you said, you have to know how things evolved, and she is weak on that. It’s not as if she can’t learn. The fact is it doesn’t appear as if she wants to sort of sit down, spend some months schooling herself, as many people have done in preparing for the presidency. If you’re a governor of any state, you face a narrow range of issues, and you don’t have to deal with the world. It’s incumbent on you to actually learn about it.

So, just to recap, Sarah Palin can’t win against Barack Obama because she has high negatives, she hasn’t “school[ed] herself”, and she’s weak on history. But an incompetent community agitator with no executive experience, no private sector experience and who is an acolyte of Alinsky is qualified because he has a beautiful, cultured speaking voice.

George Will‘s substantive reasons that Sarah Palin can’t win in 2012:

The independent voters have made up their minds about her, and it is a negative judgment they’ve made… After the 2008 campaign she had two things she had to do: she had to go home to Alaska and study, and she had to govern Alaska well. Instead she quit halfway through her first term and shows up in the audience of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ and other distinctly non-presidential venues…

Just to recap: independent voters have a negative opinion of Palin. And the fact that Democrat operatives had filed 18 frivolous lawsuits — all later dismissed — against her (source: Associated Press), which were bankrupting her family, had nothing at all to do with it. That, plus appearing in the audience of Dancing with the Stars, disqualifies her.

Is this really what passes for informed commentary inside the Beltway?

Remember: Krauthammer worked for Walter-Freaking-Mondale in 1980. George Will endorsed Howard Baker in 1980. Both of these guys completely missed the Reagan revolution. Krauthammer and Will are certainly smart dudes, but their political instincts appear to be for s***. Palin can win. Bachmann can win. Cain can win. Ryan can win. Santorum can win. Obama is a sitting duck if confronted with a true, articulate Constitutional conservative.

He’s a walking, talking disaster as President. And everyone knows it.

By the way, I’ve been out of town for a while. How are those Stimulus, HAMP, Cash-for-Clunkers, Weatherization, Green Jobs, Obamacare, “Banking Reform”, drilling moratorium, First-Time Home-Buyer Credit, auto company takeovers and QE2 programs working out?

Hat tips: Mark Levin and Gateway Pundit.

I feel like Ronald Reagan.

I didn't leave the Republican Party, the Republican Party left me.

If we don’t get SERIOUS change of direction (which is the major reason for my support of Sarah / true conservatives) in 2012, there very well may be nothing left to be President of by “2016 or 2020 no matter what.”

Jack Geomond (sp?) was a jerkwad, but he always was objective in his analysis, even then his conclusions went against his liberal views. He called ‘em like he saw ‘em THEN went on about why that was bad.

I too liked Jack Germond. His politics stunk and he could sometimes be vicious but he was refreshingly honest. He seemed as contemptuous of Eleanor Clift as the more conservative members of the McLaughlin Group. Unlike many of the newer liberal journalists, Germond seemed to realize that intelligent people could come to political views different than his.

Yep, I love it.

I have been doing battle with the MSM for many years. At one time I often wrote “letters to the editor”, back in the days when I read a newspaper each morning.

Now all the “good” regional newspapers have been bought by the chains or closed. I have not subscribed to a newspaper for 10 years. Here I am.

“That, plus appearing in the audience of Dancing with the Stars, disqualifies her.”

If I’m not mistaken, didn’t Ronald Reagan appear on the Dean Martin Celebrity Roast show prior to his presidential run? It didn’t seem to hurt him.

She said she had never considered a THIRD party run until "very recently."

So THIS is the person you Palin-or-bust fans support? Someone who will fool around with a third-party run at such a critical juncture in our lives and the life of our nation? Someone who is so besotted with her own celebrity that it's become all about her to the extent that, if she can't win the Republican nomination, she'll deliberately pull a Ross Perot to ensure an Obama 2nd term?

IF -- again, IF -- Sarah Palin is such a person, and the type of conservative that makes up the majority of FReepers insist on going down that road with her, then I will no longer trust the judgement of any of you.

Perhaps you actually don't know, but Sarah has an army of tens-of-millions of deeply commited constitutionally conservative arch-patriot volunteers...

Volunteers are fine, but the person at the top needs to put an organization in place to make effective use of them. That's the real world, sweet cheeks. Deal with it.

She will need campaign offices in every county in the nation, if not every senatorial or congressional district. At minimum, she will need to hire a manager for each one, and those managers will need direction as to how to use the volunteers who come in to the offices. She will need campaign materials and a communications staff to make sure all of it is printed and distributed to all those volunteers. She will need people to work voter registration roles and registration drives, to work phones, and so on. All of those people need to be organized to work effectively. She will need an organization to get her on the ballot in all 50 states. She will need an advance staff to set up appearances and get her from place to place efficiently. She will need security. She will need a fund raising effort, an accounting team to keep track of the money and report it as legally required.

The list is almost endless of all the day-to-day details that an effective campaign must handle. So far, I haven't seen anything that could even remotely be called a professional campaign organization from Camp Palin, and time is growing very short.

Oh, really? Sounds to me like you remain clueless here. She is telling the hacks not to mess with her... and you know they have been. Rove, romney, etc. and now rollins. Take your twitch elsewhere Do you think everyone is crazy but you?

"She will need campaign offices in every county in the nation..."

Actually, she won't. All she'll need is a plurality of the votes to win the primary, and over 270 Electoral College votes to boot O'Bunghole outta da Crib EL Blanco.

A good dose of B-complex vitamins should help still the hallucinations there, Rufus.

I've watched how Sarah has won all of hers, and she's never gone the conventional route... and she wins anyway.

The standard rules don't apply, and your isistence that they "must" changes nothing. Take a lesson, Rufus.

From 'out back', I imagine...

It is LONG past time to question every little nugget these clowns spew; on the left AND right. Most is pure BS fabricated out of thin air.

Running for president is vastly different from running for any local and statewide election, particularly those in a low-population state like Alaska. Just take the one legality of getting on the ballot in all 50 states for the primaries. Do you think that happens by magic? Unconventional won’t cut it. A candidate must comply with the laws of each one of the states. Multiply that chore times hundreds or thousands of campaign chores, large and small, and perhaps you begin to grasp the challenge.

Right now Sarah Palin is more political gadfly than serious candidate. I keep waiting for her to fish or cut bait in this campaign. Then we’ll see.
