Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I had the opportunity to watch Helen of Troy this weekend. Two quick questions for those who watched it.
1. Why was Helen kidnapped at the beginning. I missed the motives.
2. If Helen is supposed to be the most beautiful woman in the world, then shouldn't they have gotten a beautiful woman to portray her? Come on, really... would you go to war for 10 years for her. (I know Helen was just the pretext)
Corin, you've quit the religious wars numerous times. Is this time... for sure. I haven't been there for almost a year... and I do not miss them. Let them bite and devour one another over the same silly arguments and for the pleasure of being "right". I got more important things to do.
Who's the FR mascot and why was he desposed?
PS... when I find the "five" out and about on other threads, I find that they are just as obnoxious and mean-spirited no matter what subject they are discussing.

After that, it was family policy that Queenie be spoiled rotten for the rest of her life. If she begged for food, she got it, as long as it wasn't harmful. She not only had her own spot on the sofa, but nobody could watch TV until Queenie was sitting there, too. After what the dog did in protecting the family, it was the least they could do in return, whe said.Cool story! Thanks for sharing it!

My wife's parents adopted a Siamese cat while my wife was away at college. When my wife moved back home the cat became very fond of her, but that's another story. Twice the cat saved the family. I could see Tam doing those things. The other cats wouldn't give a darn (i.e. they're NORMAL cats), but Tam seems to try to watch out for the rest of us...he just about goes crazy if one of the "family" is missing. When Halvah had to stay overnight at the vet, he paced the house for hours calling for her. He has a kind of odd cry he uses when he's looking for someone. I felt so bad for him!
