This Newsweek cover is pure gold and so is their socialism quiz [You might be a Socialist if.........]
Not The Bee ^ | October 16, 2026 | Commodore Vanderbilt

Posted on 10/16/2026 6:28:50 AM PDT by Red Badger

Is Newsweek mocking the most deadly ideology of the past century, or applauding it?

No one knows, but it looks like it got approval from Chairman Mao! Here's the headline on Newsweek's website.

And the article:

You, dear reader, might think you know where you land on the socialist-to-capitalist spectrum. At least, I thought I did (put me down as Reluctant Capitalist, please). But is it so simple? Plenty of people who would never sit through a DSA meeting get their electricity from a utility owned by their city. Is that socialism? If you live in a planned subdivision, your HOA probably has more say over the height of your fence than the typical commissar had over a Moscow balcony. Is that free-market capitalism?

The test that follows runs 20 questions, with one point per yes.

Here are the questions, followed by my answers:

01| Would you take a 32-hour week if your pay stayed exactly the same?

Yes, but not if I have to become a commie.

02| Have you ever paid extra for oat milk to protest an extractive food system?

I'm not gay.

03| Have you ever waited 14 weeks for a library book rather than pay $16 for it?

That's oddly specific, and, no.

04| Have you ever worn a keffiyeh to Starbucks?

I can brew black coffee at home, so no.

05| Should health care be free at the point of use?

Like Canada, will your doctor kill you?

06| Do you own an anti-capitalist tote bag?

That might be the gayest question (so far).

07| Should Washington own a piece of Intel to keep up with China?

I got nothing on seven. But I'll give you Newsweek's answer:

DSA wants public ownership of the largest corporations and essential industries. The Trump administration reached a similar conclusion, sort of. In August 2025, Washington took about 9.9 percent of Intel in exchange for roughly $8.87 billion in federal disbursements, without board or governance rights. Call it strategic capitalism or venture socialism, depending on your preference.

Trump's not a socialist, guys, I swear.

08| Have you ever announced that you were leaving X ... on X?

Again, I'm not gay. But I'm starting to think Newsweek might be making fun of the commies, so that's good.

09| Do you belong to an HOA?

Newsweek is comparing HOAs to socialism? Based.

10| Have you ever gone to therapy to talk about capitalism?

11| Should ICE be abolished?

[See GIF above]

12| Would you trust City Hall with your electricity?

I'd trust them to turn off my electricity if I stepped out of line.

13| Should all public college be free, and existing student debt be canceled?

Public college should be abolished, commie.

14| Do you hate landlords but love your Airbnb?

Apparently I'm supposed to hate going on vacation?

15| Do you support strikes when they inconvenience you?

I know all you libtards still shop on Amazon. So do I.

16| Would you shop at a government supermarket if the groceries were 30 percent cheaper?

I shop at Woodman's.

17| Should billionaires face aggressive wealth taxes?

They already do. Also, no.

18| Should the United States abolish the Electoral College?

Trump won the popular vote, so sure (that's a joke, please clap).

19| Have you ever supported a free bus by not paying for one that wasn't free yet?

I only ride the white horse.

20| Would you rather live in the America imagined by the 1912 Socialist Party than the America of 1912?

If I could live in Imaginationland, I would. Unfortunately, that's not a real thing.

Welp, that rounds out the list. I think I scored a 3?

I guess I'm 15% gay then.

Do better, me!

LOL. This is a funny quiz and pleasantly surprising that it is coming from Newsweak. One interesting aspect is what it says about how journalism at these magazines is changing in response to the brutal environment for news magazines, whether traditional or online. Almost every journalist is freelance and every article is pay-per-article. And prices are dropping as AI articles get better and better. So the old idea that Newsweak has a staff of snooty, Ivy League trained liberal journalists who write all their articles is long gone. Some editor went through a pile of articles from freelancers in his or her inbox, probably after they were filtered by AI, and this came to the top of the pile based on marketing click metrics.

17| Should billionaires face aggressive wealth taxes?

They already do. Also, no.

In terms of tax RATES, no, they don't. Billionaires have tax exempt foundations in which they hide their expenses and make investments in political influence-buying for fun and profit, all in the name of "charity."

LOL, very funny - except it is not.

The DSA is making inroads among the American population - especially those who are struggling to pay bills, put food on the table, pay rent - they are open to Communist lies.

Exactly how the Russian Revolution proceeded...(to destroy the country and kill ≈ 66 million innocent Russian Citizens).

In the Russian Revolution, intellectuals and elite academics were in the vanguard of the revolution. Then they were killed. Maybe something like that will happen here, too, but in a different order.

Kronstadt rebellion 1921

the sailors and civilians who were among the first to support Lenin in 1917 rebelled in 1921 as the Leninist government was not doing what they promised. brutally, of course, put down.i believe the first Soviet gulag was established in the White Sea for those not executed.

Newsweek is the new “MAD MAGAZINE”

Or like "Mental Floss" - a magazine I read as a child until I got a whiff of leftism in it. Mostly silly fluff, though.
Having seen vintage issues of MAD, I'd say it was Swiftian compared to Newsweek's feeble humor!

“Better dead than red” is an anti-communist slogan.

Red is the emblematic color of communism and has thus become a synonym for “communist” (plural reds). Thus “better dead than red” means that ‘one would rather die or be dead than to become or be a communist’. - Wiki

Those answers are not Newsweek’s; they’re the author’s of the article about the Newsweek issue. He’s hilarious; Newsweek, not so much.

The test that follows runs 20 questions, with one point per yes.

Here are the questions
01| Would you take a 32-hour week if your pay stayed exactly the same?

No! I couldn’t generate enough revenue to pay my employees and my business would collapse.

02| Have you ever paid extra for oat milk to protest an extractive food system?

No. I’m not gay.

03| Have you ever waited 14 weeks for a library book rather than pay $16 for it?

That’s oddly specific, and, no.

04| Have you ever worn a keffiyeh to Starbucks?

I avoid Starbucks! So NO.

05| Should health care be free at the point of use?

NO. I don’t believe in Slavery (Outlawed with 14th Amendment) so it’s never free. It means raiding the working people for more money to pay for the people who refuse to work.

06| Do you own an anti-capitalist tote bag?

NO. I don’t have it, and not sure what it looks like.

07| Should Washington own a piece of Intel to keep up with China?

Socialists, who want to ‘cooperate’ with large conglomerates to ‘run’ the nation has already been extensively tried as a form of Government. The Socialists, self Declared, who popularized this system were ADOLPH HITLER and MUSSOLINI. Trump IS NOT a Socialist. The socialists are socialists, Trump is a capitalist. Fascism was Socialists with a ‘new twist’.

08| Have you ever announced that you were leaving X ... on X?
No, and nobody would care if I did.

09| Do you belong to an HOA?

It was unavoidable with the purchase of my home. If I could opt out I would. So this socialism is forced upon me, and I don’t like it.

10| Have you ever gone to therapy to talk about capitalism?

No. Therapy appears to be overrun by women 18-32 who are Liberals.

11| Should ICE be abolished?

ICE should be expanded to include exporting Americans who are unregistered political agents for other nations. Like all those that have attended a ‘no kings protest’, funded essentially by the CCP.

12| Would you trust City Hall with your electricity?

No. You may not be able to fight City Hall, but you certainly should never trust them.

13| Should all public college be free, and existing student debt be canceled?

The should round up all of the people who took student loans without the means to pay them back, and allow them to declare Chapter 11 bankruptcy with liquidation of all assets, including any property and trust funds, first going to the Federal Government. Then they can ‘start’ over. So NO, and cancelled with a HUGE penalty.

14| Do you hate landlords but love your Airbnb?

Huh? Airbnb means a vacation. That’s mostly for retired or people on ‘Welfare’ or subsidized incomes. Small business owners just mostly get to struggle to pay more in taxes, and not go vacationing.

15| Do you support strikes when they inconvenience you?

Depends if I supported it before the strike.

16| Would you shop at a government supermarket if the groceries were 30 percent cheaper?

No, unless if the tax money to support it was from entirely extra taxes paid by Liberals!

17| Should billionaires face aggressive wealth taxes?

No, They already do face overly aggressive wealth tax. We should consider a Congressional Award for the greatest Tax Contributor...Like the Medal of Honor award, or the Presidential Medal of Freedom. We should celebrate and remember them.

18| Should the United States abolish the Electoral College?

No. We should begin deporting all of those people who don’t understand the Constitution, Founding Fathers, or the purpose of the Electoral College.

19| Have you ever supported a free bus by not paying for one that wasn’t free yet?

No, I just drive an old truck.....no buses.

20| Would you rather live in the America imagined by the 1912 Socialist Party than the America of 1912?

NO,I would rather live in the real world in 1912 and not in the land of Unicorns and make believe. I especially don’t want the Federal Government to force me to live in the land of Unicorns and Make believe.

I have one yes, but I don’t like the stupid HOA.
