The Jaguar Type 01 has been unveiled!

It’s been almost two years since Jaguar showed the Type 00 concept car to the public, and it’s fair to say the production car looks remarkably similar to the concept!

Jaguar was aiming for a full reset with the Type 00 concept. The question is, does the production car help it achieve its goal? Let’s take a closer look…

The similarities to the Type 00 Concept are clear. For starters, it’s absolutely colossal! It has a huge bonnet, and the car measures 5.2 metres long. Along the front you’ll find thin headlights and DRLs, as well as a bumper that features active aero to help the Type 01 cool when required. The ‘grille’ includes the same lines as seen on the concept, along with Jaguar’s all-new logo. From the side, you’ll find 23-inch alloys that come as standard, four doors (unlike the two seen on the concept), and pop-out door handles. Around the back, the slat design continues across the entire rear end, with two full-length light bars built into them. There’s also a pop-up spoiler when the car hits high speed, and perhaps most notably, there’s no rear window!

On the inside, the interior of the Type 01 is incredibly minimalistic. There’s a large central spine that runs from the front to the rear (so it’s strictly a four-door), and there’s a small infotainment screen to manage the climate controls. There’s a large digital dial screen that’s touch-sensitive, and the steering wheel is modern and comes with buttons to control the dial screen. There’s a sound bar that runs along the length of the windscreen, with speakers built into the seat headrests.

A car of this size needs a lot of power, so it’s no surprise it comes equipped with three electric motors - one at the front and two at the rear. The three combine to produce 1,030hp and 1,365Nm, with a claimed 0-60 time of 4 seconds. That may seem slow for a car with so much power, but then again, it does weigh around 2.7 tonnes!

We don’t have an official price yet, but don’t be surprised to find it any cheaper than £120,000! So do you think it’s worth it? Let us know in the comments!

I’ll take an E-type, or an XJ-6...back when the car industry had designers with class.

Beyond that, give ‘em to the libs who like fugly and non-functional. And e-cars seem to have a secret “Max Fugly” contest each year.

Ha.... Ha..... don’t believe there’s enough intestinal fortitude left for an advert such as that. More partial to the 57’s..... now that was a Jag.

Either going to be a trend setter or failure. Some interesting lines. What may have doomed the car was the marketing to gays, that will turn off many potential buyers. Of course it is a niche market car, apparently marketed to another niche group….. time will tell, RIP Jaguar……

I’ve been on an Angry Old Man streak lately, so here goes: Good Lord. Perhaps its that I completely lost respect for the company when it released its bizarre ads a couple of year back, but this car does absolutely nothing for me. Well, actually it does. It reminds me that we are living in a Brave New World wherein brutish, bulky, soulless design has become, somehow, a ‘thing’, a style that some people are drawn to. So many that major manufacturers produce goods to appeal to that segment of the population. It is very well designed. It has a theme, the proportions are correct, and its aesthetics are consistent. It’s just sterile and uninspiring, not unlike much of our society today. And no, it’s not just that I’m getting old and don’t like change. For example, and with respect to Jaguar in particular, the now ancient 140 and 150 models were elegant, classy, and muscular, and completely Jaguar. So were the E-types. The XJ-S Coupes were a significant shift in design, and some at the time were NOT fans, but to my eye they were beautiful and quite Jaguar. So I’m absolutely up for new ideas, and new looks. This thing, however, leaves me completely flat. I shall now have a second cup of coffee, and pet my cat... :)

It looks like they dug up a 1960’s sci fi movie prop and slapped the new Jaguar logo on it...........

If you were a mensch, you would post the answer to the question the headline poses.

But you weren’t, so I had to:

“...So, what do I think about it? Well, so when I started as a motoring journalist, the thing that gave me the biggest buzz when I thought I’ve made it as a motoring journalist wasn’t when I first drove a Porsche, Ferrari, BMW, or anything like that. It was when I first got behind the wheel of a Jaguar. That’s because I’m from the Midlands. When I was growing up, the coolest cars in the world were Jaguars and they were built near where I lived. So, I’ve got a soft spot for Jags. I want the company to succeed. Will this car do it for them?

“Well, you know what? I think this it’s got this wow factor when you first see it. I think initial sales will be strong, but it could end up a little bit like the Cybertruck where it’s kind of like a novelty car. And I know they’ve got another car in the pipeline based on the same platform. Obviously, it’s going to be some form of SUV, and they need that one to come through very soon because people are more like to buy an SUV than this big strange long coupe-ish mad thing that the Type01 is.

“I think the Type01 could bridge the gap and save the company. But it will be the next car that comes through that really allows it to flourish. And it could be like it was in the ‘ 60s and ‘ 70s. You had the E- Type, the sporty version, and then you had the XJ for the more luxurious family orientated car. It’s gonna be interesting to see what happens. Now, that is my opinion, but what do you think? Will the Type 01 save Jaguar? I want you to vote by replying to our pinned comment. Yes, it will save them or no, it won’t. In the meantime, if you want to see the car that I think the Type01 is most like, click on that video window there to watch my review of the Rolls-Royce Spectre. Thanks for watching.”

EV, no thx, go back to the 12 cylinders - The Jaguar E-Type V12 is the Series 3 version of the iconic British sports car, produced from 1971 to 1974.
