It Looks Like We've Made a Big Step in Combating Alzheimer's

In mid-July, the FDA approved Leqembi, a series of injections that specifically target the plaques that build up in the brains of Alzheimer's patients. Those plaques are what cause the memory loss, behavioral changes, and terminal decline.

That medication was given to Gail Youngsdale. Three years ago, Gail's Alzheimer's disease was progressing. At the time, Leqembi was a trial drug. Doctors gave her injections to target the nine spots of plaque in her brain.

Now? They're gone and Gail has gotten married and gotten most of her memory back.

After being diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment and later early Alzheimer’s disease, Gail Youngdale feared what the future might hold. She’d seen the devastating effects of the disease on her own mother years ago. Seeking options, she enrolled in a landmark clinical trial for a therapy designed to remove toxic amyloid plaques, a hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease, from the brain.

Her daughter, Teri, served as her clinical trial study partner—attending every appointment, supporting Gail through the process, and learning as much as she could about Alzheimer’s and her own genetic risk of developing the disease.

 “After she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, I saw the fighter in my mom come out. She inspired me to take my own brain health seriously,” Teri said.

Today, Gail continues treatment with the now FDA-approved medication for early Alzheimer’s disease and has been able to maintain her independence and quality of life. She even found a second chance at love after reconnecting with her high school sweetheart.

Alzheimer's is an evil disease.

This writer lost an aunt to the disease. She developed symptoms in 2007 and died a decade later. It was a very sad thing to watch.

The FDA also approved a subcutaneous injection for home-use, too.

The drug is called Leqembi. Received FDA approval in mid July.

Picture of him was heartbreaking, no-one seemed to be alive inside his face. Family requested donations to Alzheimer’s Foundation.

The guy who wrote the book I just read, “Why Baptists are so Fat” claims it is the seed oils that we were conned into consuming instead of saturated fats starting in about 1980. He claims a lot of thing and some of them are probably right.

Lecanemab, sold under the brand name Leqembi, is a monoclonal antibody medication used for the treatment of mild Alzheimer's disease. Lecanemab is an amyloid beta-directed antibody. It is given via intravenous infusion or subcutaneous injection. In clinical trials, it demonstrated small or no clinically significant efficacy in Alzheimer's disease. The most common side effects of lecanemab include headache, infusion-related reactions, and amyloid-related imaging abnormalities, a side effect known to occur with the class of antibodies targeting amyloid. Lecanemab was jointly developed by Eisai, Biogen, and Bioarctic.

A 2026 meta-analysis suggests that lecanemab has no effect in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. A 2026 Cochrane review found no effect or at best small effect. - Wikipedia

I don’t trust any modern medicine anymore, or doctors, since Covid. Wake me up when they start curing things. My mom passed away at 86 and that’s young for my family. She carried her meds in a second purse. She had meds to treat the side effects of meds. The bad part is that she probably didn’t need the meds that started the whole prescription med avalanche. She insisted on taking the Covid shots. I wish she hadn’t, but I believe in choice, even though I had a terrible feeling about those shots. She had a minor stroke the day after her first shot and a fatal stroke after the second one. Of course, at 86, it was automatically old age regardless of the real reason. Nope. I refuse any modern vaccines and most doctors after Covid. I’m not anti-vax. I’m anti Covid and modern vax now. Once trust is lost, it’s gone.

There are a lot of remedies you can’t take if you are on blood thinners....Ibuprofen is one I’ve had to stop taking for headaches..only thing that works...
