Iran down to 2 months of fuel supply as brutal US sanctions take their toll
NY Post ^ | 9/04/26 | Chris Nesi

Iran is facing a potential economic disaster as the besieged Islamic Republic’s fuel reserves have dwindled to a paltry two-month supply, following months of punishing US bombing campaigns and a fresh wave of crippling economic sanctions.

The US unleashed a barrage of secondary sanctions in recent weeks to choke off Iran’s supply of cash, restricting the rogue nation’s access to international financing networks and even blockading its oil exports.

This is preventing Iran from doing everything from buying goods to securing foreign currency, and even forcing it to import gasoline because its refinery infrastructure has been decimated and there’s no money to fix it, three senior Iranian sources told Reuters.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent last month unveiled “Operation Economic Outcast” — a plan to to “collapse the regime” by implementing the “toughest sanctions in US history,” which he likened to an “economic D-Day” in Iran.

President Trump further warned any nation providing “any type of lifeline” to Iran would face their own economic consequences.

Iran’s clerical rulers have evaded sanctions for decades, but the latest effort by the US to bring the six-month conflict to an end through economic means has even left the regime too cash-strapped to pay the premium cost of evading sanctions illicitly, the sources told the outlet.

This has rendered its front companies, unregistered tankers and smuggling operations all but useless, the senior officials said.

Perhaps most calamitous of all, the country has just two months’ worth of gasoline left, one senior official said.

Another crushing loss the regime is coping with is the loss of one of its primary trading partners, the United Arab Emirates, which, following US pressure and attacks from Iran, announced Aug. 19 it would cease all financial dealings with Iran until further notice.

Come on. What happens in 2 months here? That’s 30 days before November. What happens then?

I would never want to see “boots on the ground” but, as a thought experiment, imagine waiting a couple months (they’d be down to zero?) and then invade with fast moving armor columns. They wouldn’t be able to move, resupply, or flee. Yeah, I know it’s mountainous, but without fuel they wouldn’t have any sort of cohesive force. And, with winter coming, hiding in the mountains with no fuel or resupply capability might be unpleasant.

Did the Post refer to Iranian proxy use of missiles, suicide bombers and other nasty things as “brutal”?

True, but if they are “out of fuel” it means they do not have any fuel we can use either....

This reporter tells us what we want to hear based on anonymous Iranian sources. So maybe he’s right and it’s true. And maybe not.

How many times since early 2022 have we heard that Russia is on the verge of collapse and that Vladimir Putin is deathly ill?

“True, but if they are “out of fuel” it means they do not have any fuel we can use either....”

They are out of REFINED fuel like gasoline because their refineries have been destroyed according to the article ...

PLENTY of crude petroleum in the ground and even some pumped out into storage tanks waiting for ships which will never arrive due to the blockade ...

Iran has lots of oil in the ground. But crude oil is not fuel.

Come on. What happens in 2 months here? That’s 30 days before November. What happens then?

What happens? NOTHING.

We do NOT know all the truth. We can't get it from Trump because that would betray our nation. We can't the truth from Iran because it wouldn't know truth if it were kicked in its proverbial shins.

So we are left with Trump's best effort to keep Iran PINNED to its waning efforts. Iran will lie to the very end.
The problem, in my opinion, is INFERNAL China, Laos, Cuba, North Korea and Vietnam...Communist countries and avowed enemies of the USA. THEY will fund and support Iran because they CAN and WANT TO.
They won't always want to and WILL get REAL tired of supporting Iran...Iran being SUCH a nice country. Lol.

Iran was Persia.
Remember the movie 300? It was about Persia, now Iran, that truly believed that IT should rule the world. Xerxes, the ruler then, was an insane, cruel a*****e. Not much has changed.
Mojtaba Khamenei is the current ruler and he isn't as nearly capable as the old Shah of Iran was.

I can remember a DJ from New York who was spoofing the ayatollah of Iran. The DJ said that HE was the ayatollah of rock and roll-ya. lol.

Thank the Lord for the Spartans. If it weren't for them we would all be speaking Farsi.

There is an old joke about two hikers who encounter a bear. One guy bends down to lace up his shoes. His friend scoffs and says, "You can't outrun a bear!" And the first guy says, "All I need to do is outrun you."

All we really need is more fuel than the Iranian have at their disposal. We can truck it in from from the strait or even airlift to a hotspot. I imagine there are refineries in the Middle East, and we could probably claim a degree of priority. Iran can't do any of that. As long as we have more than they do, we win.
