We are probably alone (11 mins)
The Ancient Dog ^ | 08/05/2026 | Professor Edmund Whitmore

Posted on 08/29/2026 7:42:49 PM PDT by Az Joe

Professor Edmund Whitmore takes the stage to make an argument most scientists won't say out loud: that we are probably alone in the universe. Not "we haven't found anyone yet." Actually alone. The only technological civilization that exists, or has ever existed, within any distance that matters.

thats exactly right... Because Ben Franklyn isnt capable of getting to the lake to go fishing. It took him 50 years to get up from the couch and walk to open the front door.

there are millions of galaxies we know about. with billions of stars in each galaxy. proclaiming there is no other life out there other than us is just plain arrogant and foolish.

hence the REASON I focused on “Distance that matters”!! Capisci!!?? 5... 10... 300 Light years from here DOESNT MATTER because we’ll never ever get there!!! but I guess youre to smart to understand that...

You understand the situation succinctly. We are not alone. Only problem is the huge size of universe. Light has not yet arrived on earth from far away galaxies, that is how big the universe is. Our own milky way galaxy is so huge, our spacecrafts are unable to escape it. Each of the zillion galaxies have zillions of stars and each star has planets. Life forms if the planet is exact correct distance from its Sun to achieve moderate temps we have on earth. Other planets in our solar system are either too hot or too cold. But since the number of planets in the universe is unimaginably large number, probability is very high that life exists on zillions of planets. Too bad the distances are so great. To make things worse, the universe is still expanding!

I have no clue if we are alone, beyond my Christian beliefs and that is not a “scientific” assessment.

Scientifically, I have no basis to believe there is other life in the Universe. Certainly there is ample opportunity for it so I assume it is likely.

At the same time, every planet we have discovered has been hostile to any possibility to life.

All I know is that I flat reject the knee-jerk hypothesis that there MUST BE other life in the Universe because it is so vast with such a mind-boggling number of galaxies, stars and planets.

No, you can’t assume that a massive universe means there must be life beyond earth. It is very very possible that despite the breathtaking size of the universe, earth contains the only life anywhere within it.

I just don’t know. Nobody can. It comes down to whatever you want to believe.

Unless we aren’t. Unless our understanding of physics is limited.

And I think Fermi’s paradox is close to being proven wrong. There IS something showing up around us. We immediately look to the sky…but we could be wrong.

There are actually few absolutes in the world.

As I think Arthur Clarke pointed out once, some civilization somewhere had to be the first to rise to technological importance and there’s no reason it couldn’t be us.

Our farthest flying spacecraft uses solar panels for power. As it gets farther away from our sun, there is less energy available as the distance from our sun increases.

To reach nearest solar system for us, the spacecraft will need to derive energy from the nearest sun. However the gap between the 2 suns is so great that the spacecraft simply dies from entering the vast dark space between the two suns. If we can’t even send a spacecraft to the nearest solar system, forget about ever reaching much farther away solar systems and their planets to discover life.

We will find viruses and bacteria out there and they will try to kill us.

Does that make everybody happy now?

I agree
Except for the Holy Trinity of God,
God’s Angels and
Satan and his Fallen Angels (Demons)
And those that have gone on before us

Since the bible reports of angels and demons, what rejects the idea that they are from alien planets?

You have correctly repeated the official wisdom of “science” cosmology.

The problem is that most of it is garbage.

You can’t verify any of it with actual observation or personal experience—you are just repeating what the “experts” say.

Good luck with that.

Radio waves travel at the speed of light. We’ve been listening to the universe for quite a while now. Not a peep. If we consider the fact that the universe appears to be much older than ourselves, than it would appear that we are indeed completely alone.

BUT, we must also consider God and his all-powerful self. Maybe this is just the universe he put us in. Maybe he has many more universes with lots of other folks in them. (?)
