Time heals all wounds, according to the Australian breakdancer Raygun, even ones inflicted by strangers online when you suddenly find yourself the subject of global mockery.
Two years after going viral for her captivatingly non-fluid breakdancing routine at the Paris Olympics, Rachael Gunn, aka Raygun, says she’s learned to make peace with the “surreal” experience she had at the Games — thanks, in part, to a lot of therapy.
“Paris is now just a part of my story,” Gunn said in an interview. “For me, it’s more about radical acceptance of everything that’s happened and just one foot in front of the other, just trying to move ahead.”
As the most famous — or infamous — breakdancer in the world, Gunn is the subject of a new Netflix documentary, “Untold Raygun: Breaking Badly,” that debuts on Netflix on September 1. The film chronicles how Gunn came to breakdancing, her rocky path to the Paris Games and the toll that going viral had on her. “I can’t just be a meme,” she tells viewers.
Speaking from her home in Sydney ahead of the documentary’s release, Gunn said she’s proud of her routine despite things feeling like a “slow-motion car crash” at the time. “It was important to me to go out there and be myself, to be creative and to not be afraid to be different,” she said. “No regrets.”

I don’t quite understand this story. What is a “non-fluid breakdancing routine” and why would she go viral over it?
At that point, pack it in. Call it quits. End the Olympics - because you got nothing left.
I must have missed this when I was watching the Olympics back then.
I'm Gen-X, so I remember when break dancing was popular. I'm kind of glad to see that it's still around in some form.
There are worse things a young person could be into. You have to be in shape to dance.
I have no clue what this is about.

She should have gotten the Gold for mocking BS.
I can honestly say she brought joy and laughter into my life.

I think Breakdancing was one of the exhibition sports for consideration as a permanent medal event at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. The woman from Australia in the article put on a “breakdance” performance that defied all description as to what it was she was doing in front of the judges. The judges didn’t take it seriously as they weren’t convinced she was being serious. I think she got uniform 0’s from all the judges. But…whatever. First or last, she will always have the title “Olympian” as she officially represented Australia in the games.

I feel sorry for her: 0 points in 3 match ups, made fun of around the world.
But she got what she deserved. She had to know she’s not ready for the Olympics.

She is the head of the Australian break dancing League and she herself did not allow others to go so that she could.
