Looking for Film DvD Bluray recommendations. Life is hard right now and I am looking for immersive films and shows that aren't too treacle sweet but have a bit of depth. Not violent, complex is good. Nice is good.
My beloved Morse trilogy has worked, Gentlemen prefer Blonds, Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend, Harvey, the original All Creatures Great and Small, the Poiot series, Babbetes Feast, Primer, Signs, singing in the Rain, It happened one night,Mrs Miniver, Blast From the Pat, Galexy Quest, Christmas in Connecticut, An ebayer is trying to screw me over by having sent me the wrong region when i asked for Make Way for Tomorrow.
I guess I am looking for feel good black and whites and early color films. Some films that have left you smiling. Not haha comedy. Just nice. Like Singing in the Rain nice.
Ones without a message.... just watched the film Pleasantville and found it beyond stupid. Was it marketed to young teens?
Anyhow again I will compile and put together a lost and post it at the end of the thread for everyone to have to print off.

“Mrs. Miniver” reminds me of kind of an American version by the title of “Since You Went Away”. “The Best Years of Our Lives” is also excellent.

Have you seen “Only Angels Have Wings” starring Cary Grant and Jean Arthur?
I think it would fit your parameters. It had some good lines in it IMO and a decent story line.

Watched Darkest Hour a couple of nights ago. There was some sadness.... to know what was... and what is now....
That reminds me of another light-hearted pick:
Father Goose with Cary Grant. I thought he might not have been well-cast in the kind of role that normally calls for a Humphrey Bogart-type, but it worked just fine. Just a little bit syrupy, not too much.
May be too recent. Babe made me feel warm in a special way.

If you liked the "Morse" series, you might want to try "Endeavor" (Morse as a young detective) and "Lewis" (after Morse's death, his Detective Sergeant after promotion to Inspector).
For something different, you might like "Life on Mars" and "Ashes To Ashes" (British detective time-travel series)
There’s a blue ray somewhere in my house, I don’t recall where. For immersive (and for educational) I just go to youtube premium. So much stuff there, the most popular option is “add to queue.” In no time I have a list of films.
20th c America was glorious for cinema, especially 1930s-1960s.
Also with youtube you get reviews right at your fingertips — the comments section will instantly tell you who’s in it, what it’s about, quality of video, and whether it’s worth watching.
Got a large screen and a stash of popcorn. When it gets boring there’s a genuine drive-in movie theater just down the road.

Relatively new release “The Sheep Detective” was funny, clever and sweet. I mean yes there is a murder in the beginning but it is farcical (the sheep talk) and it is not violent or bloody, more like, a body is discovered. Redemptive as well.
The Ugly Truth with Gerard Butler.
For laughs Blazing Saddles and Used Cars. Some language.
Think you have it hard? Watch The Wild Bunch, arguably the best western movie. Action packed, again some language.
Double Idemnity with Fred McMurray great movie.
Soylent Green.
The Cabin in the Woods.
