New poll delivers brutal verdict on Trump’s Iran war: not worth it

Two-thirds of Americans believe the war in Iran has not been worth fighting.

A new AP-NORC poll found that roughly two-thirds of U.S. adults say the war that began Feb. 28 is not worthwhile. The sentiment is shared by the vast majority of Democrats (87%) and independents (68%), as well as 37% of Republicans.

The AP-NORC poll, conducted July 23-27, surveyed 1,165 adults and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.

I did not say "every piece of bad news about Trump is TDS inspired".

Yet every piece of bad news about Trump is denounced as TDS on FR.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a negative article about Trump that isn't followed by one or more Freepers accusing the article's writer and the poster of TDS.

“Polls..... Sorta like celebrity endorsements....worthless.”

I don’t recall any president before President Trump who cited polls even 1/100th as often as he does.

"...Focus on the U.S., not the world..."

Now, I admit, that is good advice. And I am not being facetious.

We should protect ourselves from people who have been screaming at the top of their lungs for the last half century:

"DEATH TO AMERICA"

And not only have they threatened it, they have killed thousands of American citizens over that time.

I do believe you are correct in this. We absolutely SHOULD protect the U.S. from those threats of wiping us off the face of the Earth.

Of course, if it protects Israelis and the rest of the world too, that is an added bonus.

What else would you expect from a Ron Paul supporter?

The on again/off again stuff has worn very thin. The poll is cooked sure but it isn’t that far off I’ll bet

2/3rds of Americans have no idea how powerful a nuclear bomb is and how crazy the Iranians are.

At least 2/3rds of Americans have heard that propaganda sh!t for years from every establishment Republican @sshole in Washington and have just tuned it out.

This dude should have just listened to himself:

No, Angelino97, my statement was SPECIFICALLY in the context of Freepers whose posting history clearly shows in virtually every thread they start, if not every post they post, that they are either cowards, infested with TDS, or simply are here to sow dissension.

“Right now the Midterms are more important than the Iranians acquiring nuclear weapons.”

The midterms are almost certainly going to be lost.

Desperate Republicans might try to save some individual seats by passing a Medicare Part D secondary subsidy extension coupled with realistic election reforms.

If this stupid war was nearly as popular as this echo chamber thinks it is (or wishes it was), you'd have politicians in Washington falling all over themselves to support it.

It's the exact opposite. Most Republicans in Congress know damn well that their constituents are absolutely not on board with it.

“causing real pain”

If paying $5/week more for gas would cause you real economic pain, you’ve got bigger problems than buying gas.

What specifically do you believe is the problem with the poll methodology?

If Sydney Sweeney had wheels, she’d be a bike.

Making a hyper-dramatic hypothetical isn’t the same as establishing a real threat.

There is a Pandora’s Box of possible threat scenarios, and Iran is just one of many possible players.

It’s pretty easy to get such a result when the war is unresolved and the MSM is heavily biased.

It's even easier to get such a result (and I'm surprised the number isn't 90% opposed to this stupid war) when President Trump himself has been putting out dozens of public statements and social media messages for months claiming that Iran's military has been decimated, their navy is at the bottom of the Persian Gulf, etc.

Please don't twist my words. You might think it's cute, but it's really dishonest.

You know that when I said Trump should focus on the U.S., I mean he should ignore Iran.

So what if a few Iranians scream "Death to America" for the cameras? You can find people all over the world -- including in the U.S. -- who scream "Death to America" for the cameras.

Only an idiot would take every such showboating seriously.

The Neocons decide which country they want to attack next, then cherry-pick the sound bites that support their narrative.

Actually, the Neocons can't even keep their narratives straight. Half the time we're told that Iranians are Muslims maniacs who should be turned into glass. The other half the time we're told that Iranians are non-Muslims who yearn to be liberated by Trump.

The defense budgets from 1950 to 1990 to defend against the Soviet Union and its nukes cost big bucks.

"...Trump KNEW that an open conflict with Iran would be an immediate hit on his approval, would likely jar the economy, and cause a rise in inflation through fuel supply disruptions, causing real pain. He had to know that this was absolutely necessary to ensure the long-term survival and safety of U.S. interests, including at home. That is real courage, leading the brigade into battle despite the naysayers..."

Exactly. Well put. These same people who you and I would characterize as "naysayers" post agitatedly that Trump went in with no plan. That he didn't take the mid-term election into account. That he didn't even think of the possible hit on the economy.

It was hilarious (yet disturbing) to read those same people post with a straight face "Trump had no plan for Iran shutting down the Strait of Hormuz" as if this very thing had not been looked at, war-gamed, planned for, contingencies considered, and thought about by thousands upon thousands of military personnel for decades.

Yeah. There was no plan. And. by gosh, Trump never even dusted off those plans until the first Iranian mine appeared or the first Iranian missile was fired at a ship.

It is pretty hard to take those same people seriously.
