When workers at the Pentagon quietly removed “Department of Defense” plaques and replaced them with new bronze signs reading “Department of War,” the reaction was immediate. Critics argued it sent the wrong signal to allies and adversaries.

Why the Pentagon’s Name Change Is Back in the SpotlightPresident Trump’s September executive order directed the Pentagon to “revert to its historic name,” though Congress would still need to update the title in federal law. Soon after, Pentagon workers took down the old DoD signs and installed “Department of War” plaques at two major entrances. Hegseth said the rebrand restores a clarity of purpose tied to winning wars.
But the change isn’t just semantic. According to congressional staff and independent analysts, a full rebrand, from IT systems to global basing signage, could cost up to $2 billion. For comparison, renaming Army and Air Force bases that previously honored Confederate officers cost $62 million across nine installations (Naming Commission final report).
If renaming nine bases costs $62 million, imagine renaming an entire global defense enterprise. The Pentagon hasn’t released its own cost figure yet. But experts agree the price tag will not be small.

Americans want it as Department of Defense.
No more fighting wars for globalists.
To be pedantic, the Department of War is the old name for the Department of the Army. The Department of the Navy was its co-equal. When the US Army Air Forces became the the US Air Force, War became Army and the Department of Defence was established over all three.
And their slogan will be "Arbeit macht frei."

Department of Defense means we’ll wait until attacked and then send a strongly worded letter and maybe billions of $ in tribute.
Department of War means we will proactively defend America.
So... war -> proactively defend... like the Department of Defense

And I want the 2 billion (estimate) put to better use. Like better pay for our troops.
IMO:
War = protect in advance in hopes of no, or minimal, harm to Citizens.
Defense = after an offense, playing catch up.
Presidents presiding over the Department of Defense gave us 47 years of cowering appeasement to Iran.
Beginning in the first year of the Department of War under President Trump, the US is finally dealing with the existential threat that is Iran.
Yeah, let's just ignore that the U.S. was behind the overthrow of the legitimate Iranian government in 1953. That doesn't fit the propaganda.
The only reason for being on defense is so you can consolidate, re-arm, and re-fit, to return to the offense.

It’s a military truth.
Truth is lost on modern age politicians who become extremely wealthy with forever wars. Rulers have gained wealth and power for hundreds of years at the expense of the common man.
President Trump has stopped more wars than he has started. He’s a welcome anomaly. His peace efforts have been a velvet glove on an iron fist.
I have no issues re-naming Department of Defense to Department of War. Though it’s going to cost a LOT in new stationary.

I'm not a globalist but I am retired military. I've actually wanted this change for decades now. I just never thought it would ever happen. Department of War just has a more assertive tone about it.

When I began my engineering work, it was with the Bureau of Ships, which operated under the Department of the Navy. The War Department was in charge of the army.
