Two tourists have ignited fury after being seen walking perilously close to the boiling waters of a world-famous hot spring.
Footage shot by Tanya Saueressig, of Livingston, Montana, showed the moment inside Yellowstone National Park when two women began approaching the Grand Prismatic Spring around 7pm local time Sunday after veering off-track.
The women nonchalantly walked on the spring's colorful microbial mats, which shine hues of yellow, orange and red thanks to the heat-loving bacteria around the edges of the pool.
Saueressig said she stopped in her tracks when she spotted the women near the 160-foot-deep spring, which has a center that reaches 188° F.
'Is that people?' Saueressig recalled thinking. 'That can't be people. Nobody's that dumb.'
The National Park Service has warned that even if the ground around Yellowstone may look solid, it can be 'just a thin crust with super-heated water below.'
Not only was the act extremely dangerous, but it was also illegal and could lead to repercussions for the two women, who are yet to be identified.
Traveling off boardwalks or designated trails is illegal at Yellowstone, according to the US Code of Federal Regulations.

A man ended up in the heated water. All they found was boiled bones the next day. All tissue had boiled off.
If somebody wants to jump into scolding hot water... I believe that’s their problem... Being the Darwin Award winner of the week is obviously a goal for some people... Hopefully they don’t reproduce before achieving their awkward dream.

I’m about an hour and a half from the West Gate of Yellowstone. I haven’t been there in 20 years. To many dumbass tourist that think it a petting zoo or arcade. Camping in the park with all the rules is a pain. Then snowmobiling in the park got to be a hassle. If I want to fight a grizzly over my elk during hunting season I can go anywhere in the west area of the park border in October. At least during hunting season most of the dumbass tourist are gone.

I have to laugh at the stupidity of tourists, usually they are City People who do not have a clue about nature.
At Peggy’s Cove in Nova Scotia , there are signs not to go to the waters edge on the lighthouse rock, which are smooth granite pillows. They go to the waters edge and a swell takes them and the under tow drowns them. Algae is so slippery they cannot climb back out.Dozens have died in this way.
Darwin Awards need to be funded by a grant from the Darwin Foundation Go Fund Me.Such stupidity should not be transmitted genetically.
I lived in New Zealand from 1982 to 1984 and when we visited the Rotorua area (geysers and bubbling mud) me and my siblings were warned to not get close to these things as one of my Dad’s coworkers knew someone who got badly scalded from being splattered by boiling mud.
I went to the Grand Canyon by the Navejo reserve. The first person I saw was leaning forward, like he was flying, and somebody was taking his picture.
The second was a extremely heavy-set child. He tripped and I thought he was going to roll off the edge.
Yellowstone is too hard to get to from Many places.

And then, of course, one of the worst bear attack scenes ever “The Edge”…
… up until the movie “The Revenant”, which is probably unsurpassable for ferocity on screen…
Tourists are always going to do stupid things… You’re always going to have people that ignore warning signs, or horse around ignoring obvious danger, trying to get that perfect picture for the Cellphone camera.
The Darwin Award is aptly named and described.
Hard to tell. It could have been, but I think it is possible it was dark dark complexion Asians. One appeared to wearing a hijab.
