Im just wondering because, from the outside itvappears that Kentuckians view things from a local perspective and not the national perspective.
He’s in Kentucky, which is one of the few states that require a special election to fill a seat. The governor doesn’t make the choice.

If the seat is open before August 3rd, there will be an election. Massie will run as an independant to spite Trump, split the vote, and elect a D.
I always find it interesting that KY routinely elected both Rand and McConnell for decades. They are two completely different men.

Massie is not going to run for a useless seat that he would hold for two months when the Senate is mostly not in session. He is a sitting member of congress until January 3, 2027
I read somewhere that the KY legislature picks 3 names and then the Governor appoints a temporary Senator from those 3 names until an election can be held.

Actually I just looked it up and from 2021 the Kentucky governor had to pick an interim replacement from 3 names submitted by the previous senator’s party.
They just changed the rules so that now there will be a special election held within 8 weeks of the announcement of the vacancy.
