Trump’s ‘American flag blue’ reflecting pool turns nasty green after $14M glow-up — admin blames Obama

The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool still needs some algae emancipation.

Just days after the iconic Reflecting Pool reopened following President Trump’s $14 million renovation to seal the concrete bottom with an “American flag blue,” its familiar gnarly-looking green algae once again took over.

“Versus previous administrations, the National Park Service is actually maintaining the beautifully completed Reflecting Pool,” a spokesperson for the Department of the Interior told The Post.

“The nanobubbler technology has successfully destroyed the algae bloom that has plagued every pool reopening since 1922, most infamously, the Obama pool reopening that resulted in massive algae clumps taking over the pool’s surface,” the spokesperson went on.

“Now, due to deploying the advanced nanobubbler technology, the algae is dead and being vacuumed up as we speak. We thank President Trump for fixing the Reflecting Pool for good.”

In addition to sealing the concrete bottom of the Reflecting Pool, the Trump administration spent $1.7 million on an upgraded ozone nanobubbler filtration system, which is intended to disperse tiny oxygen bubbles to undercut algae’s food supply, according to online federal contracting records.

Algae has been a perennial issue in the shallow, 6.7 million-gallon artificial basin, which was constructed in the early 1920s.

The National Park Service initially indicated the return of the green-looking water was the result of dormant algae that sat in the pipes for weeks and came roaring back after the massive pool was filled back up.

Wouldn’t surprise me if some lefties poured green dye in at night.

Fast moving water or ripples on the surface don’t reflect very well. A lot of ponds will have large pumps and fountains to aerate the water, but that’s not going to work with a reflecting pool. Plus, the birds poop in it.

It will be fixed, if it hasn’t already. Then don’t look for any articles on how Blue and clean it looks.

I was told at the local gardening store to put bleach in my outdoor fountains to get rid of algae and keep it out - dogs can smell it and avoid drinking from the fountains.

Has worked for years to keep algae from ruining the fountains - I buy bleach at Dollar Tree, 1/4 cup does the trick.

People never read ALL the history of Washington D.C. The Mall was built over one of the lowest lying pieces of land comprising Washington D.D., and was often swampy.

The algae just keep fighting back for their territory. /sarc

Assuming that the people knew about the problem and did the repairs with a plan and that the problem will become fixed, we all know how the media works.

The media will milk this for all they can, try to imprint every mind in America with it for as long as they can, until the fiz takes hold, and then as it turns out to all have been false and that the current appearance is a temporary part of the process, the media will turn away from the pool entirely, the media will have milked the story for every drop out of that they could within the time they had to work with it.

The media is putting a cloud over all of the long overdue repairs and maintenance that is being done in DC, there is no positive media culture buildup to our nation’s 250th birthday.

Plenty of chemicals they can add, they will and they well sweep / vacuum up the dead microbes. In the end it will be blue again unless they decide not to clean it.”

It’s my understanding that the water is pumped from the Potamac and back into hte river so that’ll limit what chemicals one can use. It’s also my understanding that the filtration system wasn’t upgraded.

Have to admit, if they did not upgrade the filtration system that was a missed opportunity and a bad decision.

As far as chemicals, yaa can’t bleach it but there are enough options. I work where we take water from the Chesapeake Bay and return it, we have to manage fouling in heat exchangers from microbes, we have used various chemicals over the years. Some more effective than others.

The contents of the article do not support the anti-Trump headline. I quote:

“The nanobubbler technology has successfully destroyed the algae bloom that has plagued every pool reopening since 1922, most infamously, the Obama pool reopening that resulted in massive algae clumps taking over the pool’s surface,” the spokesperson went on.

“Now, due to deploying the advanced nanobubbler technology, the algae is dead and being vacuumed up as we speak. We thank President Trump for fixing the Reflecting Pool for good.”

Headline writing seems to be the domain of dishonest sensationalists.

What did they do in golden olden days when it was first built and for decades after?

Hah ... it stank, that's what.

I went to the Independence Day celebration back around 1990 or so ... had a good time: the crowd was politely excited, the food trucks were good, the National Symphony Orchestra put on a nice concert, the fireworks were top-tier.

And then I went home.

On the Metro.

That was crowded with teen-age and early twenty something folks. (No, not "teens" in the current newspeak sense of the word.)

Who had been wading in the reflecting pool.

That was full of dirt, duck shit, and algae.

Nasty ...

From the article ...

“It’s part of the normal startup process,” a spokesperson for the agency told CNN. “We are removing the algae, and the nanobubblers will maintain the pool and keep it algae-free.”
