JD Vance Says Iran ‘Could’ Get Access to $300 Billion as Part of Trump Deal
Mediaite ^ | June 15, 2026 | Alex Griffing

Posted on 06/15/2026 9:35:10 AM PDT by Miami Rebel

Ed O’Keefe, CBS News’ senior White House and political correspondent, spoke with Vice President JD Vance on Monday morning and pushed him on whether or not Iran’s claim that it will have access to $300 billion for reconstruction from the Trump administration’s peace deal is accurate.

“Walk through some of this. The Iranians are saying that they’re gonna have access to a $300 billion reconstruction fund, true or false?” O’Keefe began.

“Well, Ed, that’s the sort of thing they could have access to, funded by the Gulf coast coalition, so long as they honor their end of the obligation. I think that one of the things you’re going to see, Ed—and people have to be skeptical of this—is that the hardliners in the Iranian system will overemphasize the benefits that Iran gets, while underemphasizing all the things that they have to concede and all the things they have to provide in order to get these benefits,” Vance replied, adding:

So we absolutely are open to the Gulf coast countries investing in the reconstruction of Iran, but only if Iran ends their nuclear program, ends their enriched stockpile of material, and is really open to an inspections and enforcement regime that gives the American people confidence they’re never gonna have a nuclear weapon. So I think the dance you’re gonna see, Ed, which is gonna be interesting, is the Iranian media, especially the hardline media, they’re gonna talk a lot about what they get without talking about what they give. It’s important for all of us to correct that record.

Vance was later on CNBC, where he was also pressed on a key sticking point in the negotiations, whether or not Iran will be able to put a toll on commercial vessels sailing through the Strait of Hormuz.

Anchor Becky Quick asked Vance, “For now, they are saying that they will reopen the strait. The United States is saying it will take down its blockade at the same time, that there will be free passage, that no one will have to pay anything to go back and forth through this. The Iranians, I think, have suggested that this is just for the next 60 days. Do you get the sense that this is a more permanent situation, where the straits will be reopened even beyond that 60-day period?”

“Well, our expectation is that the strait is gonna be opened in a toll-free way for the long term, and that’s the sort of thing that we’re gonna figure out in these technical negotiations. You know that there are a lot of very important details to figure out, that we’re actually gonna sit at the table and discuss together and figure out a path forward on these details,” Vance replied, making clear the status of the Strait of Hormuz was still being finalized.

Before the cascade of "Mediaite? PASS" responses to this article, Mediaite provides direct quotes from the vice president himself.

We haven't seen the terms yet, so this $300 billion reconstruction fund might turn out to be make-believe. On the other hand, it might be a way for Iran to extort funds from its Arab neighbors without the payments being described as tolls.

AI tells us that the US spent 60 Billion in reconstruction costs in Iraq.

148 Billion Dollars in Afghanistan. With another 85 Billion Biden left behind in military equipment for terrorists to use and enjoy.

Clearly nation rebuilding in the Middle East is a giant CF. And Vance is thinking it could happen again?

Yep, the IRGC is being thrown a lifeline—between that,,,,,and removing our blockade, giving them badly needed revenue through the Straights. (not to mention another 60 day reprieve).

And the downside to the US is what?

His comments seem to make it clear that the $300 billion will be from other Persian Gulf countries, not the U.S.

You should read the quote in the article.

It’s still a lifeline for the IRGC as the Iranian economy was about to implode without additional revenue (as told ad nauseum by the supporters of Epic Fury here).

The IRGC had to be ecstatic about removing our blockade, it is saving them right now. They need the oil money much, much more than we need their oil.

Better question: How many sides are there?

Give us 300 billion or we’ll charge a million a ship for passage.

Every time I try to fashion an argument this isn’t JCPOA v2, the best I can come up with is “Yeah, it’s worse.”

Not every problem has a solution.

Now in our 4th month of Iran, this feels like we’ve basically decided “How about if took the mistakes of the GWB administration in the middle east but combine them with (and a its a LONG list) some of the worst mistakes of the Oblahblah administration”.

Yes, need to see the actual terms of the deal. But everything I’ve read and heard — from trusted sources and even from the Vance/Trump — leads me to the same place: We need a flux capacitor to go back to February and frankly? Decide whether to #### or get off the pot.

This feels a like a Shock and Awe/greeted as liberators/magical thinking over sober understanding of the backwards middle east as one bookend to start and then an abject surrender from the Oblahblah administration at the other bookend.

Agreed, this agreement isn’t even an agreement, it is an “understanding”

,,,,whatever the heck that means, especially as defined the IRGC.

It helps fund them and gives them 60 more days to delay, delay, delay.

The US paid Iran to open the strait and continue negotiating nuclear. That’s what this comes down to ultimately. There is no binding long-term agreement in place currently and Iran is getting billions.

Embarrassing.

It’s only $300 billion spread out over the 104 million American taxpayers.

That’s only $2884.00 per taxpayer.

That’s hardly nothing to the typical American taxpayer.
