Everything is working against him.
For the next 35 years, Karmelo Anthony has to get used to his new life in a cell.
The 19-year-old was sentenced to 35 years in prison on Tuesday after being convicted of murdering Austin Metcalf. Anthony was held at the Collin County Detention Facility in Texas following his conviction for the April 2025 fatal stabbing.
During his time at the Collin County Detention Facility post-conviction, authorities placed Anthony in isolation. This was to ensure facility safety and security. However, social media thinks something else is going on.
On X, a post about Karmelo Anthony’s transfer from county jail to TDCJ went viral. It showed images of Anthony and Senior Warden Tallan Metcalf of the Byrd Unit to imply suspicious leadership ties via shared surname. Online speculation claims nepotism due to the warden’s last name.
“Karmelo Anthony was transferred from the Collin County Detention Facility to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice this morning. Guess who runs TDCJ???” the post read.

It’s amazing to me how many people get the quote wrong. Your meme has the two most common errors people make with that quote in it.
Good question.
Doesn't work. He's too dark, and fails the paper bag test.
He is going to be both the prize and the protected.
I imagine there will be battles to both conquer him and to protect him from warring gangs in the prison. He is in a heap o’ trouble.
Was it worth it, Carmelo?
I always thought it was the black “soul brother” and “soul sister” thing and that they got lazy and dropped the “soul” part except when referring to James Brown. He’ll always be “Soul Brother No. 1”.

Yeah, it ain’t no big thang.
I remember Terry Metcalf of the Cardinals and his brother Eric who played for the Browns. Both very good players.
Jamestown1630 nailed it!
If you think there may be some manner of collusion or conspiracy in this, then you are smoking way too much of the ganga...
And James Brown deserved the honor.
Thank you for knowing
when to use “effect”
and not “affect” 😂🤣🤣🤣

The media, crazy as they are, will run with that.
"He will be welcomed as a hero in the black gangs and get their protection."
Seems fine to me.
He sho-nuff do. Even in jail he was “The Hardest-Working Man in Show Business”, “Minister of New Super Heavy Funk”, “Godfather of Soul”, “King of Soul” and who know what else.
