The European Commission has taken Ireland to Europe’s highest court over the alleged lack of enforcement of EU rules when it comes to peat cutting.

Following years of friction between the Government and the Commission on the issue, the EU’s executive body today referred Ireland to the European Court of Justice (ECJ) for failure to comply with EU rules on environmental impact assessments.

In a statement, the Commission said Ireland had failed to comply with the Environmental Impact Assessment Directive.

The statement claimed there was still “significant peat cutting activity” which was not subject to planning permission or environmental impact assessments, especially in relation to sites under 50 hectares.

“Despite evidence of these ongoing illegal activities, enforcement action at the local level is not being taken. The Commission considers that efforts by the Irish authorities have been insufficient and is therefore referring Ireland to the Court of Justice of the European Union,” the statement added. …

There are rules about cutting up Peat Moss?
Maybe it’s an export for farming.
A product that helps to distribute water through the soil, I believe.

It’s used as fuel for fires, quite often for home heating in place of wood or coal. Was also used for electricity generation, until the EUSSR said “no”.

Exactly and to the most minute detail.
Cutting peat is a long standing cultural tradition in Ireland almost defining. Why would it not be left to the Irish to manage?

AI says it’s a climate change issue. More damage and overreach enable by the climate scam.
“Cutting peat (or “turf”) has been practiced in Ireland for centuries as a traditional source of domestic heating and cooking fuel. However, the environmental impact of this practice has led to strict regulations and a major shift in national policy.”

The EU is roughly analogous the United States in the 1830s.

It’s trying to form a centralized government and create institutions of central power, over a group of formerly independent and disparate states.

Of course, one big difference is they are coming at this from the opposite direction - using top-down mandates, neo-marxism, social-engineering and controlled-media centralized propaganda to force this union.

Peat Moss for starting fires? That alone makes it extremely useful!
A portable source of ignition, just like wood or coal.
Oh yes.

Oh, noes! No one who owns less than 50 hectares of land in Ireland cutting peat for heat expects the European Court of Justice!

Love seeing those chickens come home to roost - the Irish are about as left wing and pro-EI as it gets.

not only should there not be a separate EU entity at all, but it should not be allowed to file suits against sovereign nations in any court or artificial courts whatsoever

the 4th Reich EU etcetera needs to be disbanded ASAP!

Peat is cut out of the earth in slabs and burned for heat in rural areas.
