Mole people? Crocodile catchers? Mario brothers? A series of bizarre sightings of people popping in and out of New York City’s vast subterranean sewer system has the city wondering what exactly is going on, with police now probing the underground mystery.
Some wore headlamps and carried what appeared to be shovels and other tools. One narrowly missed getting run over by a vehicle as they pulled themselves out of the ground.
“They look like they were looking for something important, like money, or for doing some type of hurting,” he said. “Ain’t no fun and games. I mean, seven grown adults going down there? Got to be something, man.”

There was a famous 1954 HerbBlock cartoon (leftist Herbert Block the cartoonist) of Richard Nixon crawling out of a sewer. When the outraged Nixon saw it in the Washington Post he canceled the subscription so his young daughter Tricia wouldn’t see it or future ones.

There was a big one near where I grew up in West Nashville that I could ride my bike through! (So long as you remembered to duck under that *1* pipe that crossed the path).
NYC obviously needs an underground tunnel precinct with a way to tax and control any economic activity.
One visit to the steam tunnels was enough for me to realize I was in over my head.
Cops say they’re probably “treasure hunters”.
Maybe they’re geocaching.
There must be laws against it. Imagine the liability factor for cities with weirdos skulking around in the sewers. The insurance companies must be freaking out.

I wouldn’t have known about ‘Hellboy’ were it not for my teen boys at the time. I guess they WERE useful for something after all!

My current cats are Boyd and Eva named for the ‘Justified’ couple. My NEXT cat WILL be named Hellboy...if he’s a boy. But, Hellgirl works too, LOL! :)
