Minneapolis police say they’ve arrested two women in connection to the death of Amos Ferrier, who died after attempting to stop his vehicle from being stolen.
The incident occurred on Friday outside Rick’s Coffee Bar on the 5400 block of 43rd Avenue South, when police said Ferrier interrupted the theft of his vehicle. The two perpetrators retreated and fled in the vehicle they arrived in. Ferrier, 38, was either struck by the suspect vehicle or jumped on the hood and was thrown from the vehicle, sustaining a serious head injury that turned fatal two days later on Sunday.
The Minneapolis Police Department issued a statement on the arrests late Tuesday:
“Chief O’Hara announced that the Minneapolis Police Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) arrested two women for their alleged involvement in the death of a man who died days after being injured during an attempted auto theft.
The Minneapolis Police Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) made probable cause arrests of 19-year-old Riniyah Allen and 18-year-old [Janaya] Frost on the 1000 block of Kingsford Street in St. Paul, Minnesota. Both were booked into the Hennepin County Jail.
‘The loss suffered by the family and loved ones of Amos Ferrier in this horrific incident cannot be undone,’ said Chief O’Hara. ‘But the apprehension of those believed to be responsible brings hope that justice will be achieved. I am grateful for the coordinated efforts of investigators and community members that led to these arrests.'”
Crime Watch Minneapolis had previously reported that a law enforcement alert went out on Sunday night for two Minneapolis homicide suspects, initially described as a black male and black female. The vehicle aired in that alert is connected to Allen, according to charges against her in another active traffic case that describes the vehicle and plate.
Ferrier was an internship director at Every Third Saturday (ETS), a nonprofit that runs Rick’s Coffee Bar and donates all profits to support veterans. A statement released by ETS and Rick’s said that Ferrier was a decorated Army medic who served in Afghanistan and had been credited with saving multiple lives during his service.

That area has been dangerous since the 60’s
That's going to be argument to drop Murder 2. And not to nitpick, but the injury didn't turn fatal....as soon as he died it should be classified as a fatal injury, especially if death occurred within 30 days.
Why inject race into the discussion?
