Google Search as you know it is over

The era of the “ten blue links” is officially over.

At its Google I/O conference on Tuesday, Google unveiled an AI-powered overhaul of Search centered around a reimagined “intelligent search box” — what the company describes as the biggest change to this entry point to the web since the search box debuted more than 25 years ago.

Instead of returning a simple list of links, Google Search will drop users into AI-powered interactive experiences at times. Google is also introducing tools that can dispatch “information agents” to gather information on a user’s behalf, along with tools that let users build personalized mini apps tailored to their needs.

Lately, when I search on Google, often it is sloppy and searches for things which partly match what I’m looking for, which means worthless answers. Or, it will say there are NO results. It is currently very frustrating.

I use Startpage, and I will never use Google for searching for anything.

Google used to allow logical operators and actually obeyed them (AND, OR, “”)

I do not know HOW MANY times I asked for an explicit search, and Google (and most other search engines) would come back with, DID YOU MEAN (some common term) and 10,000 irrelevant hints. If I make a typo, I am humble enough to retype my request correctly. Usually I type what I type BECAUSE it is uncommon.

indeed ... sometimes it’s lickity-split with grok for long periods, and then it’s suddenly overloaded for a while ...

It doesn’t help that I normally refuse to set up an account with any of these.

Yup... and I don't know which is more irritating.. someone saying they want a "soda", or a "pop". I think "pop" is more annoying, lol.

When I do a regular Google search on my laptop, the bottom of the results page has a large “Ask anything” pop-up at the bottom. I can’t get rid of the sucker. It obscures 1/4 of the page. Haven’t found a way to disable it. ANGRY!!

I did go to the “ask anything” box and typed “How can I get rid of you?” Response:

“You cannot delete or uninstall me because I am a built-in AI assistant.”
