The era of the “ten blue links” is officially over.
At its Google I/O conference on Tuesday, Google unveiled an AI-powered overhaul of Search centered around a reimagined “intelligent search box” — what the company describes as the biggest change to this entry point to the web since the search box debuted more than 25 years ago.
Instead of returning a simple list of links, Google Search will drop users into AI-powered interactive experiences at times. Google is also introducing tools that can dispatch “information agents” to gather information on a user’s behalf, along with tools that let users build personalized mini apps tailored to their needs.

Flying Monkeys, this in not a ‘new’ idea................
Since Google’s revenue stream is steering gullible web searchers towards products to buy, I’m assuming this will be just a more devious and cunning steering device. “Trust at your own risk.”
Anything will be an improvement.
If I want an AI search, I will use a pure AI.
If I want a basic web search with no guessing at my intention, I’ll use StartPage or similar.
Otherwise known as the Eighth Circle of Hell.
With the advent of AI, Google Search has just become a giant advertising billboard
A search request even remotely connected to a sales opportunity just provides a list of their paid advertisers.
its increasingly useless.
AI-powered overhaul = 1984
Cookies, by any other name is still a spying cookie.
An upgraded, more 'intelligent', information grabbing cookie.
Or, more likely, mini apps that will gather as much info about them as possible, and present them with whatever Google's clients want them to see/buy.
Agreed. The Brave search already does it. The search results provide an AI summary at the top (along with references), then the old-school list of links after that. In one search request you get both the old-school web links and the AI summary.
IIRC, the original term, back in the ‘Netscape’ days was ‘web crawlers’..........
Phone data 💵. So we go elsewhere.
It still drops you into the approved Leftist narrative.
I’ll use StartPage or similar.>>> thanks for the info right now i use brave but it sometimes is lacking.
IIRC, “Web Crawler” was the name of a particular search engine, competing with other search engines like AltaVista and Yahoo.
i’ve moved to pretty much asking Grok anything i want to find out about: compared to google searching, MUCH faster, more relevant, more useful, more pithy, and more believable ...
😂😂😂😂
