The era of the “ten blue links” is officially over.
At its Google I/O conference on Tuesday, Google unveiled an AI-powered overhaul of Search centered around a reimagined “intelligent search box” — what the company describes as the biggest change to this entry point to the web since the search box debuted more than 25 years ago.
Instead of returning a simple list of links, Google Search will drop users into AI-powered interactive experiences at times. Google is also introducing tools that can dispatch “information agents” to gather information on a user’s behalf, along with tools that let users build personalized mini apps tailored to their needs.

Yes, it has now become a generic term, like xerox for copy machines and Jacuzzi for hot tubs...........................
Am I the only person who hates AI more every time I “google” something with the stupid AI results. It’s the captain obvious of the internet. How much does a sheet of 7/16, 4x8 OSB weigh? 35 to 70 lbs is NOT an answer. Where is the fuse for high beam headlight my car? Generally the fuse box is under the dash board on the driver side and in the engine bay. No Duh. It’s like AI assumes you are retarded for asking the question. I’m intelligent enough to discern which hits will give me what I want. Google AI is so condescending in its answers unless you are a total idiot but then maybe you should have some discernment before looking around the internet for answers. I hit Google search at least a half dozen times a day and now it just pisses me off. Sometimes it doesn’t give anything after the AI answer. Just like you can tell when someone is blowing smoke and really doesn’t understand what they are saying. I want to see the responses of living human beings for the answer to my question not fake Intelligence pretending to be human and bs ing me. Again maybe just me.
Where I live we say “Coke” for any soda. “Would you hand me a coke?” could be referring to a Mountain Dew. LOL
Yep, typically a Southern thang!..............
Don’t voluntarily use any Google products, so I don’t care.
The Brave browser has been doing something like this for awhile now via its “SearchAssist”.
Google has been useless for decades. In the early 00’s it was quite useful. I used it to find solutions to technical problems. It’s doing x and y what is the problem? I got some links to click with synopses and after a few minutes I could solve the problem. Now it’s doing x and y what is the problem? You get a bunch of advertisements and a few links to forums that you can sift through for hours and never solve the problem. It’s cheaper and faster to put your old problem in a landfill and buy a cheap new problem from China.
“Web Crawler” was the name of my FIRST search engine, IIRC.
Behold! all things are new again!................
“If I want an AI search, I will use a pure AI.”
GEMINI
Pure AI refers to Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), a theoretical AI that possesses human-like cognitive abilities. Unlike narrow AI, which performs specific tasks like translating text or playing chess, pure AI can understand, learn, and apply knowledge across any intellectual domain just like a human.
Google search became obsolete and with “sponsored” links, useless.
OK, I’ll go the other way. If I want a search engine, I will use a pure search engine.
Inching towards filtered information. Read 1984.
Since Google Search has become a massive paid advertising function for many searches, does this mean we can just ask AI who they are pimping for and get an honest answer?
Notice we are not being given a choice of unfiltered links. No, now we go thru their AI filtration. Want to buy anything online? only Amazon will come up.
And most of it still has nothing to do with what you were searching for.
Grok usually tells me it is too busy to bother with me.
