“I got stoned and I missed it...”

Dr. Hook covered a lot of songs by Shel Silverstein. If your only exposure to Shel is through his children’s books, I suggest you check out his Freakin’ at the Freakers Ball album.
Shel wrote “A Boy Named Sue”.
I watch these guys on you tube alot, always stoned and putting on great entertainment! Hoping Dennis and Ray now singing together again, they were so much fun!
They were stoned, you were stoned, or both? ;-)
(Pleading the 5th is ok.) :-)
I never could relate to these guys lyrically very well, but, they were EXCELLENT musicians. Their harmonies (almost everyone in the band sang well) especially are very good.
Did he ever call Silvia’s mother?
Uncle Shelby was also good friends with David Allan Coe, when DAC also lived in Key West for a few years in the mid-to-late Seventies. It was Uncle Shelby, who convinced DAC to write and record his own comedic songs.
My younger brother almost passed out laughing, the first time he heard,
“When you’re in love with a beautiful woman...it gets hard.” with the chorus chiming in “You know it gets so hard.”
The first Dr Hook album was a really good piece of work.
It kinda came out of nowhere and people had a hard time pigeon holing it.
They were fun
Hippie early outlaw country witty

And self deprecating obviously
The lyrics if that song ring so true.
I wonder if it will be on the cover of the Rolling Stone.....
