Rubio Locks In Lead for '28
Newsmax ^

Posted on 05/16/2026 7:02:34 AM PDT by DIRTYSECRET

Rubio is like the baseball team that scraps for every run and creates openings while Vance seems to be waiting for President Trump to hit a three-run homer to bring him in.

Rubio is clearly leading Trump among Latinos, winning converts for him in a way Vance is failing to do. He has used his position as secretary of state to polish his image. Rubio has a charisma edge while Vance seems to be a stolid follower in Trump's wake.

Too early but the toe sucker knows his stuff. The hispanic attraction thing could be the difference now and in the future. Vance is young, has a family to raise, and his youth, age, and experience needs to be factored in.

“Whoever Trump endorses will be the nominee.
No others need apply.”

I’d hate to not see DeSantis in the WH. He’s got the executive experience and can deal with issues long before they become a problem.

Rubio has consistently impressed me. He comes across as highly intelligent, genuine, and knowledgeable. There is something about Vance that is off-putting to me.

I saw him give his stump speech at the Georgia state convention in 2015. He did not tailor it for his audience at all, and came across as wooden and uninspired. He has upped his game since then. Oddly, Christie gave the best presentation, with Cruz (whom I supported the time) being a little bit too smug and also sticking to standard talking points. Trump had no presence at that point, and John Ellis Bush had paid minions who were there, but had no buzz. I think we saw an unimpressive video of Fiorina, but that might just be Mandela effect.

Would you say programmed?

That was certainly how he looked when he melted down when confronted by Krispy Kreme Christy at the New Hampshire primary in 2016.

I know Rubio has a lot of experience in being a big McCain sychophant.

Trump dumped on him in 2016 and he was right about Rubio in 2016.

Seems to me, we will have a better picture after the November election. If either DeSantis or Rubio wants to run for president, they would likely have to forgo being a member or becoming a member of the administration.

The media is picking our candidates again.

I want to know why Rubio’s right hand man is still the open border, Mexican owned, immigration lawyer Cesar Conda.
It’s very curious why the swamp media never seems to go after Marco Rubio, even with his recent ties to a convicted traitor who he lived with. I want to hear him say he’s denounced his former positions on immigration, etc.

The media has been picking Republican candidates since Dole. Except for Trump. That’s why they hate him so. What does Trump know about Conda?
Rubio is for Puerto Rican statehood. Is Trump?

DeSantis showed in the last election why some people make good governors but are not presidential material.

Vance is simply not impressive and has a thin resume. He’s not ready to be president.

Marco Rubio has grown into a very competent person and has the charisma needed to win.

I doubt Vance will even run in 2028 and it doesn’t look like Trump is all that impressed either.

I really hope we're not stuck with Rubio as our nominees in 2028 - he's a lightweight political chameleon who does fine as a yes man to Trump but did even better as a yes man to John McCain and Lindsey Graham.

I'd much prefer Vance, or, as another poster said, DeSantis to Rubio. Beneath the thin veneer of MAGA, Rubio is a neocon and an immigration liberal.

The view that there's a solidarity among "Hispanics" is mostly a myth. Mexicans and Central Americans (the majority of "Hispanics") don't have any particular affinity or sense of identity with Cubans or Dominicans, nor vice-versa, any more than someone from Quebec identifies with someone for Haiti on the basis of both being French speaking.

As to Vance's supposed youth and inexperience, Obama was elected President on a much flimsier resume (as was JFK). Rubio has served longer in the Senate than Vance's brief career, but he didn't accomplish much in the way of sponsoring significant legislation.

It will be a Vance/Rubio ticket, let’s stop with the nonsense.

if you have the media willing to not mention your inadequacies that much, you can get away with it

You can't “lock in” anything 3 years before an election.
Remember the big Giuliani lead in early polls for 2008 GOP primaries?

Trump dumped on him in 2016 and he was right about Rubio in 2016.

Yeah, that's why Trump has put him in charge of damn near everything after 2024 and ensured he received a lot of camera time.

"Look at what in idiot this Rubio guy is!"

Vance - comes across as lecture-like, responsive
Rubio - direct, includes "here's why", leadership
Christy - great speaker, lacks follow-thru
Cruz - dominates debate, can appear whiny and sometimes disinterested
Carly - unmemorable, odd for a marketing exec

Just my .02
